Rear brake caliper shield, anyone remove this?
When I was changing my rear brake pads last weekend I noticed that the rear brakes were a real pain to get to, mainly due to the caliper shield that sits over the rear caliper and parking brake mechanism. I'd rather not deal with it in the future, but is it possible that I might cause damage to the car if I take it off? It really doesn't seem like it does all that much, since dust, dirt, and snow can still enter the caliper from below. I guess all I need to know is if I risk damage to the car if I take it off.
good question, I know some guys remove it or modify it to help with cooling of the caliper. I think you are right that dirt and crap can still get to the caliper so it doesn't help that much, but still kind of useful in reducing the amount of crud that may hit the calipers and parking brake parts. I'd like to see some more opinions on this. I think the fortunate guys that live in warm climates don't have much to worry about, dunno about our shitty part of the world.

All of my backing shields and rear caliper covers are removed and I live in your crappy part of the country. But my car is not a daily driver. Yes more crap, crud and rocks can have access to the calipers and rotors. But I would like to believe most ITR and honda enthusiasts in general maintain their vehicles and would notice any problems they might be having with a caliper binding or the like.

I removed the slpash shield, but the one you are talking about, protects the fragile components. I would hate to have a rock hit it and lose the brakes going into turn 1 at 115+
