Hmm, well a 96 is a 4th generation Prelude and the 97-01 would be a 5th generation. I'm assuming that you'll be interested in a VTEC model (if you get a 4th gen) so that's what I'll talk about. 4th gen you will probably run low 15's to high 14's and the 5th gen will probably run mid 15's to low 15's (1/4 mile).

How do I like mine? I'm quite fond of it

The 4th gen (92-96) cars are going to be a little harder to find in good condition depending on where you live. A 5th gen can still be purchased new at Honda dealers, but not for long seeing as they've been put on perminent hold. I own a 95 VTEC and absolutely love it. It took me months and months to find one in perfect condition but it was definetely worth the wait. You could find a decent condition 95-96 BB1 for about 9-11k. Most used 5th gen cars that I've seen go for about 13-19k depending on the year, mileage, etc. If you purchase a 4th gen VTEC you WILL be faster than a 5th gen with a bone stock car. But that shouldn't matter unless you are planning on autocrossing or legally drag racing it. On top of it all.... the 4th gens just look a hell of a lot better than any of the other years.

I have a 93 prelude VTEC that I found in new condition(No scratches, door dings, etc.) and it cost me $11,000. I previously owned a 95 Civic EX and driving the prelude is a completely different experience. The seats hug your body, the power is always there(Yes, this Honda actually has a decent amount of torque), the stereo is wonderful, and it runs high 14s stock. 5G preludes(97+) don't compare to the 4Gs in terms of straight line acceleration.
I'm running nitrous on my prelude as soon as I get the rest of the kit installed. Superchargers are good if you just want a bit more power and alot more torque. Turbo is the answer to any hp fiend. A good bolt-on will be the SMS header and Car Sound cat that is coming out soon.

I have a 4th gen prelude and I love it. I had a 92 honda civic DX and what a difference! I would only buy the VETC model though. I love the digital dash and the snug seats. There is a huge aftermarket for preludes, so you can upgrade anything on the car. The best upgrades are going to be: intake, header, and mabey a air/fuel controller. Don't bother with cam gears or light pulleys, (more for show than go!) If you need ideas about what looks good on the car I suggest going to http://www.hondaprelude.com and check out some of the ludes!

The forth generation(92-96) Vtec Preludes are RARE. I try looking for one but never saw one I liked. Even when I did found one, the owner was asking a jacked up price for it.

I ended up settling for a 94GSR sedan for $7500, not as fast ast he Prelude, but hey, it's still a gsr.

light pulleys and cam gears are more show than go? you must be joking...

best bang for the buck on the H22 is aem cai and pulleys (not crankshaft though)

i also noticed gains with my vafc, from lowering vtec point activation it helps midrange. pulleys will help with low end, and cai of course for high end.

I had an Fbird before my lude and I got a 2000 5th gen lude now. You want it? I'm sellin it. $14k With the $$$$$ I paid for the lude I could have got same year stock V8 5.7 You need to put about 3 - 5 thousand $$ into a lude to match the performance of a Trans am and even than you wouldn't be able to cruise at high speeds cause of the high RPM in 5th gear. The comfort in a hyunday accent is better than the rigid seats of the lude. I mean for a 25k $$$ car you are gettin a high end civic... lol The only good thing about it is the gas mileage and the handling. The handling is unmatchable!!!
I would say no wonder Honda discontinued it since they sold only 9000 ludes last year in the USA.....

Sounds like you want an R!!!! I had a 98 Prelude and loved, and still miss it to this day. If you want luxury and peroformance then the Lude is a great buy, but if its pure athleticism, then get an R!!!!
