Default Accord problem!

hi im new here

yesterday for the first time my car had a problem
my 2000 accord v6 ex coupe would start but lose rpm until it turned off. i had to keep my foot on the gas to keep the rpm up then shift it into drive for it to work, then after it would work fine. this only happened once but the check engine light came on. i had the light checked out and the error shocked the mechanic...all 6 cylinders were misfiring. he has no clue what the problem could be and wanted to charge me $135 for a diagnostic.
do you guys think i should take the diagnostic? the $135 wont get anything fixed...just to see what the problem is

have you done any work in your engine bay lately or played with any of your ignition components???

im not real sure on the 2000 v6s, but a misfire is the effect of off ignition timing... i would also think more codes than simply a misfire would be set in this situation.
perhaps a rented autozone scanner would be helpful for you in this situation.

yeah he plugged it into the computer and 7 codes came up, misfires for all 6 cylinders and a random misfire code. my engine is completely stock

yes its been running fine since that startup problem, but the CEL is still on

If it's running fine now... reset the light and see if it happens again. Like it was said before, ignition timing would be to blame but if it's running fine now.... there's really no problem.

im afraid it will happen again and lead to something more serious. i may know very little about cars but im pretty sure if my car just turns off like that, then it may be a sign of a problem

Run your VIN past the local dealer to see if you are in for the ignition switch recall. whomever read the codes for you should have been kind enough to reset the CEL. IMO

Seems like I had an accord in my shop with the same problem... a 2000 I believe. There was a recall on the ignition switch. The customer had me perform recall and it had the same problem, but I wanna say there was a ground jacked up for the computer as well.

that is a great idea that will hopefully save me hundreds of dollars, thanks i will try it on monday. btw it was my cousin that did the CEL check, he left it on because he wanted me to show whoever that was gonna work on my car to see the error. he said all 6 cylinders misfiring is very very rare.
