Default Need some QUICK ignition help....

Ok, 90 Honda Accord Automatic 2.2 EX. I was driving the car today on the highway and it literyally died on me, cut the motor off and I curised to a stop. Would a distributor do this? I tested for spark with the good 'ol screw driver trick and I didn't hear or see spark and it was night time so I'm sure i would have seen it. Any ideas what would just get the motor out completely if not the dizzy? Smells like its still getting fuel. Thanks

Either a coil or ignitor, a distributor being bad would be lower on the mabye list

I'm almost positive it's the ignitor. Here's a troubleshooting guide:

Is igniter another name for the rotor? If not, where is the igniter located? I mean, I bought the whole new dizzy so I'm sure its part of it right? Or is it possible to just take it off the new one and return and say hey this is missing, lol?

It's in the distributor. I would recommend returning the dizzy and just buying the ignitor. It has 4 wires going to it, connected with quick slides. Give me a little while and i'll try to find a pick, or i'll go out and take one.

Ignitior isn't a rotor, it's about the size of a pack of matches and it's inside of the distributor. Most new ones don't come with it.

Ok, I just ran out there and checked, I see what you're referring to. It has 4 quick slide connections... I'm gonna just try and dizzy and see if it'll work, than I'll switch the igniters and return the $280 dizzy, lol. Thanks guys, I'll post up tomorrow if it fixed it

Here's pics for anyone else who might need them. Take special care not to strip the heads of the screws, they are usually in really tight.

it might be the actuall switch itself
did all the power cut off? no dash lights, etc?

After the car cut off did it start back again?

No just the motor died... headlights, dash lights, everything else was fine. The car turns over just no start at all, no big noises like it blew or something, just a simple cut out.

The red is from my ricer phase, still haven't changed it. The oil is from my latest disaster.

Since you said it was running and cut off there is about an 80% chance you bent some valves pretty good.
You didn't notice a terrible clanging noise when it stopped running?

Yea def. was running, I was doing about 70 mph down the highway when it died. Thats the weird part, I didn't hear anything when it died, just died. I should've checked this yesterday because when i was cranking it, it sounded like half the motor wasn't there spinning with the bottom end. Oh well... anyone want a cheap Accord in clean shape? lol, thanks for the help anyway guys
