Please Tell me this would need a new clutch...
When I start my car and put it in gear (Sometimes force it) I hear a wierd noise, but when Its not in gear, the noise stops, I have no problems accelerating but, I cant downshift unless I completly stop my car, otherwise it wont go into gear (Like if im on a freeway). I only hear the noise when im in gear and im idle. When I step on the gas, I can't hear it anymore, maybe thats just because my exaust is to loud. So would that be the clutch? Tranny? or ??? Appreciate all help, thanks

a little background as well, the car has 164,000 miles on it, and is a 99 Accord, still running on the same clutch that was in there when my mom bought it.
6th gen accords have horrible transmissions, if your going to rebuild it or get a remanufactured one it'd be upwards of 3-4k. In that case what I am considering doing since I have a 6th gen myself is swapping a JDM h22a engine(200hp) that has everything when and if I possibly will purchase it. All for $1990. Quite a deal rather than rebuilding or getting a whole new transmission huh? Yeah sure the swap will be a couple$$ or I might possibly get my friend to help me out but heck, 200hp rather than 150 not to mention you have the possible guarantee that your tranny won't get crapped up again since 6th gen trannys go so much. PS Mines going at 111k miles
comparitable to my brothers old 4th gen which went 220k and had his tranny that pretty much got demolished.

what? I never said anything about me rebuilding my tranny.
I've had one person say it may be the tranny, all the others say its something to do with the clutch. I'm praying its not the tranny.

the manual trannies are fine and since he is talking about clutches, I am guessing he has a stick.
IF your auto tranny needs a clutch pack replacement, make sure that they do the 2nd gear fix as part of the rebuild otherwise you are gonna be right back in there with the same failure

If you have problems shifting in and out of ALL gear ranges, you most likely have an issue with the Clutch, or the clutch release mechanism.
If your shifting issue is with only one (or two) gear ranges, you most likely have Gear / Syncro ring / shift fork issues.

Glad we could confirm what you suspected anyway. You were correct to ask a second, and a third, a forth, and a fifth opinion.
