Default biggest A/R for a B16

I need to know what's the biggest A/R on the hotside you guys have gone and what your thoughts are. I'm looking for big HP on a built B16 and a built head but w/ CTR cams... I've been finding a lot of .82 and .84 hotsided turbos but was told by a friend that is WAY to big for a B16. Is that true? Oh and the B16 is stock bore, just sleeved, 9:1 comp. and of course rods...

TIA

I am going with a gt35r with a .63ar, and i am sleeved at 81mm. For a stock bore b16 i wouldnt go any bigger than .63 IMO. There isnt a whole lot of HP difference between the .63 or .82 that is worth the extra lag.

Ok that's kind of what I was thinking... I was also thinking about going w/ a .48 again but will that still produce some good mid to high end HP? Also at what RPM do you reach full boost?

Im running a small t3/to4b turbo right now. It has a .63ar, and the lag isnt bad at all. I hit 17/18 lbs at like 5300. What size turbo do you plan on runnin?

Not really 100% sure yet.. I've got my eye on a couple though.. I was looking at the BLowzilla , t3/60-1 from cheapturbo.com or something like a Precision SC61.. All w/ a .48 hotside.. I'm looking for as close to 500 as possible.. I'll spray if necessary..

yeah, i thought about a SC61, but came up with some extra money, so im going with a gt35r. Ball Bearing should help with knocking some of the lag down. I remember seeing a couple of SC61 b16 dynos on here, and they were really nice. I think they were .63 ar's though. Not sure how .48 would affect top end...you would have to ask someone who has been down that road.

i'am interested in this too...

how is it?! is it possible to compare A/R's from different turbo families?
i guess a T25 turbine with a .64ar has another effect on the engine then a T3 or T4 turbine with the same ar - is this right?

look at the GT28RS for example... great spool up even with a .82ar when you look at a T3/T04e with a .64ar (which is lower from the number) which has a bigger lag then the GT28RS...

so i think when talking about ar's at least the turine family has to be mentioned too to make a guessing about lag and powerband.

Best regards
Malte.

look into a gt30r there are a few variations but they are all bb and will spool very quickly and make alot of power without being over kill. be perpared to rev pretty high to make 500 hp with stock bore.

Yeah that's what i've been told. HOw high is high in this instance? 10K 11K? Also what you're saying is that if it's a BB turbo I can get a bigger AR and it'll spool nicely?

the bigger the a/r the later the spool. i had a stock bore b16 with a gt35r .82 (dual bb) and it spooled pretty late, around 6000. this was no fun on the street, if it was an all out race set up this might have worked, but for a street car it sucked

i have a .63ar sc34, laggy compared to my old h22 setup, but spools nicely and has a great top end

.63 would be the max a street car should go IMO
