Compton smog shops are your friend.

Smog is every two years, so do it right after you smog and then worry about it 2 years after. lol.

You have to smog every other year on your registration renewal. If you didn't have to smog on your last renewal, you will this year, and then "it's time".

They claim it to be, but any reputable smog shop will immediately fail you visually just because the car is modified. It happened to me, so I had to get it done illegally.

signing up for this... I'm just about to move to socal next week.

I have a built b16 with a 3" pipe going from the turbo out to the back with only a muffler in line. open air catch can, and open dump on the wg also... I hope there's a way to register this thing

thats bullshit, if it can pass smog test is should be fine, who cares if its modified? with that attitude more people will just go illegally and not even care about the ozone... I will definately change my setup to try and pass smog so I wont add to the LA fog, but if they're gonna tell me no regardless then screw it I'll just drive around with an open down pipe.

I'm hoping to find a non ******** shop that will pass me if I can pass the smog test. anyone know of a shop like this?

nah I would put a cat and some resonators on, feed the BOV back into the intake, feed the wg back into the exhaust, and do something with the catch can to try and pass smog... but I'm not gonna bother if no one will pass me just because it's been modded.

I might be screwed anyway because of the obd1 conversion

can anyone advise??

Yeah, if you converted from OBD2 to OBD1 you will have to switch back in order to smog it.

What I do is every other year I put all of my stock stuff back on for smog. I put in my stock ecu, stock exhaust manifold, stock injectors, stock exhaust, stock intake. I just leave the intercooler and most of the charge piping there, an if the smog tech asks I tell him it just for looks . It really isn't that much work. A few hours of work every two years is worth it to run a sweet setup.

hmm... that doesnt sound too bad once every two years, but I dont think I can run my motor with a stock ecu since it's fully built...

has anyone tried running a stock ecu + stock injectors on a motor that's overbored (84mm), lowered compression (9:1), ported head and different cams?

I'm starting to feel SOL...

I don't know for sure but....I assume that you would be fine as long as you drove it easy. If there was a problem getting it to idle you could hook up a VAFC or similar fuel controller and hide it so that the smog tech won't see it. But again, I don't know for sure.
