Track whores. How did you attatch your harness with a cage?
I'm getting ready to purchase my harness. I'm looking to see how everyone has attatched theirs. I don't think I want to just wrap the bar. Maybe weld some tabs to the bar and bolt them down? Post pics of your setup. I'm eventually going to get a Takata, but for now I'll run some SFI simpsons or something to that affect. TIA

Kinda lousy pics with the old digicam but you can get the idea as well as what I mentioned in Migs's other post about the zip ties to keep the harness in place:
I heard that by wrapping them, they can slide side to side, which I'm trying to avoid. I dunno if I drill a hole through the bar, with a washer on both sides, can I attatch to that or will it weaken the roll bar?

FWIW, I've always used the wraparound type with no issues.

Mine wrap around and don't slide. Maybe you can jam pieces of rollbar padding in-between so the wraps don't slide.

I noticed you and Parker did, I didn't check Allans or Davids. I was just under the impression that if you did the wrapping method, you have a chance of them sliding on the bar. I've seen people put zip ties on it, but I'm not really looking for a band-aid type fix, I'm pretty much looking to either weld in some tabs, or drill through the bar. My only concern though with drilling through that bar is that I'd also have to either drill through the harness itself, put in a few washers, or put in some eye loop bolts and attatch to that. Or, not I think about it...what about a bracket that goes around the bar and bolted (think of kinda like a camera mount) and have an eye on it to attatch to. Just looking for some suggestions.

Now that's not a bad idea

I wrap mine as well.. I put some 3m rock chip protector tape on the parts where I wrap to keep from rubbing the paint off.. mine have never slid.. if you're paranoid, harness guides would be the "nice" way to do it..
also, on a side note, I recommend that same tape stuff on the door bars, so you don't scratch them up all the time getting in and out.. keeps em pretty..

You show ***** you...
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. So basically the best way to do it would be some harness guides and the wrap technique?

LOLOLOL, can't believe I found it. Here you go Dave - we-todd-did style. Left is 5 pt. Simpson, Passenger is a Y harness. I bought them from Franza back in the day. They worked just fine. They only slide around when they aren't on.
use zipties and attach the harnesses to the rear wing. Some surgury may be required with the rear glass.....use a hammer.
oh....and make sure to cool your brakes with water like the trans -am boys.

Please do something secure! Sorry, but zip ties and roll bar padding may only prevent sliding during your tech inspection and while turning laps..., not during a 40g lateral impact. If your seat back flexes laterally, or breaks during lateral crash, your harneses are going with you if they are wrapped around the back bar.
If you are going to use a HANS, they recommend that each belt be bolted at points as close to the seat as possible and with bolt holes no more than 5" apart.
You can securely weld a bracket or heavy bolt tabs to the back bar and bolt the harness to them. Best option.
Just drilling through your tubing and dropping a bolt through is not good practice. If you must do so, drill a bigger hole, insert a tube bushing that fits your bolt snugly, weld it in place, then slide your grade 8 bolts through the bushings & harness plates, and use lock nuts & washers. Not optimal, but it'll work.
If you must wrap, weld a containment hoop onto the back bar as others have suggested. I personally don't like it....but if you must.
Dave, I e-mailed a pic of my belt bracket. Post it if you wish. It's overkill, but I'm pretty sure it ain't goin' anywhere.
