Default General Question....

I just bought a '95 Civic (DX) and I was looking under the hood and I noticed something that I have no clue as to what it is. Its like the black funny shaped tube in front of my air filter. I looked at it from all different angles and still couldnt figure it out. If anyone knows what it is can you please let me know...

I posted a pic. like some of ya'll asked.

That's the resonator. You can remove all of that. In fact, when you add an aftermarket intake, you remove all that crap.

There's a loud sucking noise that comes with intaking air into your engine.
That pretty much reduces the noise, that is all.

OK now I guess the next question would have to be. When I take all the stuff out what would be the best cold air intake to get?

any piece of pipe, doenst matter, and a k&n filter. An intake is an intake, doesnt matter, just get the cheapest you can find with a k&n filter

yep. The point of that thing that you highlighted is to avoid the bigger debris from getting into the intake. I took all of htat out, and made holes about 6 in. underneath where the filter is and now my car sounds like its got a short ram. Ghetto but works.
