Default heater signal

ok well heres the problem.. im running an obd2 simulator and its been working fine until 3 days ago when i threw a heater signal code that is coming from the secondary o2 sensor, ( not the edmissions signal ) i emailed the guy who sold me the simulator and heres what he told me to do...

( You can simulate the heater circuit with a 40-60ohm 20 watt resistor found at Radio Shack for about $1. Just cut the sensor off completely and hook the resistor between the two wires of the same color (usually two black or two white) that came out of the sensor. That should solve the heater error. )

now heres the question, when i cut the heater signal wire and run that resistor to the other black wire ( which is the o2 sensor power wire ) whats the point of even having the o2 sensor there because the only thing left running from the o2 sensor to the ecu is ground? because obvisally the edmissions signal is cut and the obd2 simulator wire replaced it?

heres a diagram of the back of the o2 sensor if this helps
