Default Some thoughts about owning an ITR...

Sorry guys, I just have to talk about this. If the mods want to delete it/move it's ok. Sometimes I really wish I didn't have an ITR and I just drove some crappy azz cheap car. After seeing Chris(Socal ITR)'s car broken into, I just went crazy again. I really can't believe this whole import "scene" has become so messed up. What's the point of owning an ITR when you can't park it anywhere? What's the point of modding the car just so you can drive it out on the weekend? I want my ITR until the day it dies but the things I have to sacrafice...

Sorry...had to vent...thanks.

I just sold mine today. Nothing but a small key scratch had touched mine in 2 years. I was lucky I guess.

peace,

I must agree with that. I own number 01-686. Its a shame that its gotten to that point. If you really think about it, i am sure everyone on this forum knows what we're talking about. Everytime someone sits there and makes a comparison about one car or another, they always match it up with an R. " My friend has Spec B's inside his B16 Si " , whats the first thing someone's gonna say?? " Can it take out an R with those cams? Can it keep up with an R?? Is it faster than an R?"
All you R owners out there ( myself included ), we drive the icon of this whole import race bullshit. Go to your local performance shop, i am sure most of them carry something with an R on it. Badges, emblems and ect. Whatever happened to good old motorsports? Its all about loud exhaust, silly blue lights everywhere, gigantic holes in your bumpers and Andy's autosport. Combat kits and spoilers that just block your rear view. Bet half you people out there didn't even know that the average spoiler only generates 1.2 pounds of downforce @ 180 mph. First of all, you wont find a road long enough to let you take your ride up to 180 mph. If you really wanted that 1.2 lbs of downforce, i'll go out and get you a 1.2 pound bag of gummy worms for you to throw in your trunk. The scene's gotten out of hand with all this auto theft. Windows gettin cracked, cars being stolen. Your ride getting keyed or damaged. I get creeped cause i dont wanna drive to a mall and have my emblems stolen or anything. Sure, its just an emblem but i like how my R looks stock. I like the way it looks with the emblems and it just sucks that you can't be secure parking it anywhere.
B2FiNiTY - I totally agree with what your saying. my car got messed with a couple weeks ago. i parked my car by a shopping center and i come back with marks and dents on my fender and door. Looked like BBgun shots or something cause they look like punctures on the fender. I got some touch up paint to cover it up for now. Its a bitch cause we got all these damn theives running around. Makes no sense, i am sure that the thieves have their own reasons to do this but that doesnt justify anyone touching my R other than myself, right guys?

To conclude this whole memo i had to append to this forum, it sucks worrying about crap like this but lets be realistic. Doesn't matter what it is, we will always have people hating on us, i don't care what kind of car they drive. I am sure everyone's familiar with all these cars with blue lights checkin us out,
Its a pain in the @ss but we gotta deal with it. I guess thats the price we pay for driving an R. Dont sweat it.

Yeah, I agree completely. This **** is disgusting to me.

What is most amazing to me is the fact that you can park an ITR next to an M3 or even maybe a Porsche and the ITR will get fucked with. WTF!?

The more I read about theft/vandalism with the ITR...the more I want to get a sleeper looking Lancer EVO. Black...remove the wing. 4 dr sedan; in hopes that it won't get fucked with.

It sucks. I always end up driving my 94 Tercel daily commuter everywhere because its very relaxing.
The R only goes out on sunny day and just from Garage to safe short stops and back. I dusted the car more in the garage then on the road. Oh well, thats what i want, thats what i have to do.

NDLess Type R-- I'm 100% agree with you. The only time I found my R is a "car" is when I go to the track or autoX. Never feel safe everytime when I've to put the lock on the steering wheels, close the door, turn on the alarm and walk away

Sometimes I wonder do all the joy I got my from my R (track/autoX) really worth?

May be Honda was right.....The R is belong to the track!!

I only worry about it when I read this board.

I love every shitty commute and every grocery store run in my ITR. On the track... life finds new meaning.

If my ITR gets jacked or whatever... I'll burn that bridge when I get to it.

I can't go through my life living in fear. One can either remove the object that causes the fear (for many of you, that may be the ITR, itself), or move beyond the fear and live for the moment.

The problem is there are MANY nicer cars out there (Porsche, M3 etc), but the R is always the first to get vandalism.

Ya, but maybe here is some good news. Your cars didnt make that top 10 list. I know it didnt bc they arent that many of you out there. I would only own an R if it could be my 2nd car and if it was in a garage.

to those of you still staying strong

It's because of HYPE and the parts are easy to sell. I could drive a nice benz to school and no one would hate. But if I drive my Integra everyone is going hate on me. Just how life is. If the whole world was filled with old people then no one would care if we drove Type Rs. The sad thing is when some people see older people driving ITRs they still hate. NO RESPECT FOR SOCIETY.

Yeah guys, its soo funny. I won't lie about it and i know you R owners know what i am talking about. Lets me honest, it gives us an ego trip about the R. We might not show it but it just feels good. TUrning the key to start that baby up. Watch the revs climb, your palms sweat some more. I swear, i get all happy when i turn the wheel around a very slow corner. The response we get from the road. There is direct feedback from the road and the steering wheel. I guess others dont know what it feels like and they want to know, thats why they hate on us when we do have it. I was at the Old Orchard mall one time in skokie. I had this car full of asian chicks waving and then you see the guys sittin in the back seat that sittin there givin me the finger. Its soo funny but its like what the heck? You're the one having your older sister's friends drive you around, why you hatin if your chicks are smilin at me? Its obvious people are jealous. I just find it funny how it happens. I think that was the coolest thing in the world. Car full of people, girls are wavin and you got the guys in the back with the finger. That just shows you how immature people are. I've had instances where i see some black guys in a MB, an E class or something with some 19's and some rubber bands around their rims. They won't hate, they were really cool about it. After i got done lookin at my reflection on his rims cruisind down the highway, i look up and i see the driver smilin with his 14k teeth with the thumbs up. Of course i give it up to his 50 grand car with the 4 grand rims so we share the mutual thing but people like that are cool. I've had S2000's say whatsup, 84 Oldsmobile's and even 911 Targa's driving up to me sayin that its nice. My car's bone stock, I guess its the Yellow that catches their eyes but regardless what color it is, You know its an R when you see one. I don't think my R or anyone elses R is all that but i have to say, my 01 PY ITR satisfies my need for speed. Its all i've really asked for in a car performance wise. It can go faster but still today, my R hasn't failed to slap a smile on my face. No matter what it is, traffic, low speed roads, high speed turns, my R will go in the direction i point it to go, no questions asked. Those are my opinions about owning an ITR.

I feel the same way (Before) about the R..
sometimes, I feel tired of worrying...etc-etc...
but once I drive hard the R in the rain like I just did 10 minutes ago..

It was all Worthed!! hehehe..

I love my R, but if one day its gone... its my fate.. life goes on.
while I have it, I'll do whatever I want with it.. fair enough I think

You feel bad every now and then, but ones you get behind that wheel..... Everything changes.... I don't get a high from thinking that other people are watching me as a drive down the roads or highways. (in fact I wish they would get out of my way) I get a high from just being in a car that is just so much fun to drive.

Don't get me wrong, I have it bad. I'm always looking over my shoulder. Keep checking the rear view mirror and try and take a different route home every day. I have it bad, very bad, but I personally feel that it's worth it..... everytime I get behind the wheel of my ITR.....

Very true...once I get back behind the wheel and get on the R...oh man...all my worries just fade away...

I don't know about the whole "ego trip" feeling since I honestly don't even like drawing attention to myself (probably why I ended up with a black one). I will freely admit that I love driving the car.

Honda really impressed me by bringing out a car like this. They brought out a real drivers car at a very attractive and affordable price. Hell, I was shocked when the day I picked up the car and drove off from the dealership. The driving experience was exactly the way I imagined it would be from all the reviews about the Type R. Yes, I actually ordered the car without ever being inside a Type R. In all seriousness, I've been in only one Integra before and it was a 1st gen!

I'm not an "import" enthusiast. I'm a car enthusiast. I could care less about the import scene. It can go to hell for all I care and I wouldn't blink twice if the new thing turns out to be [fill a car fad here]. I'm just here to enjoy the drive.

Now ... my little rant ...

I know there is a market for ITR parts out there. What puzzles me is why. There are cheaper and more powerful solutions to B18C5 engines. Suspension and braking wise, I'm 99% sure that the aftermarket yet again can supply pieces that will out perform our stock pieces.

I just don't understand why our cars are turning into parts cars. Why have the need for a 5 lug conversion when it's sometimes a real pain in the *** to get properly offset rims in sizes we want. Why bother with a B18C5 motor when other solutions are much more affordable (in general) and more power can be realized. I'm making huge generalizations and assumptions here but why would drag/street racers bother with a B18C5 when a B18B with a turbo would be far more cost effective for that purpose (huge and possibly wrong assumption but I need some basis to rant on).

Is it to say that they have Type R parts in their cars? Are our seats/interior pieces that nice that people will do anything for them? Hell, I'm more interested in possibly getting a Recaro seat for the passenger side and perhaps a race shell for the drivers side. I don't see the attraction towards our interior. I'd understand more if we had alacantra covered Recaro SRDs but ... reskinned Integra (generic) seats? Mindboggling.

Ugh ... I can go on for pages about this but I'll just quit while I'm still coherent. I know this isn't going to stop the thefts of our cars but maybe ... just maybe, they (thieves and potential stolen part buyers) will think twice before wanting Type R parts. That's if they read this board. If not ... everyone once in awhile, it feels good to vent.

Edited - Wanted to add this. I do not hate or get angry at hybriders. I know a lot of focus and attention heads in their direction every time a ITR is stolen but pushing the blame on to them is wrong. A hybrid owner might be a guy/gal that couldn't get an ITR for whatever reason (heck, I missed out on '97 since I was too late in ordering and got screwed in '99 since Honda didn't import any) and they wanted something that they could call their own. But remember, their cars get stolen also. Imagine if you were in their place and you had a car that you built from the ground up to have it ripped from you. I'm sure it feels just as bad or worse for them when their cars are stolen. There are legit hybrid owners out there. I'm sure you might know a couple people with a hybrid who cares about his/her car as much as we care about ours. It just sucks to see all of them being thrown in the same boat as the thieves. Just some food for thought ...

As much as I love my R, I don't think I'll ever get another one if they total it. Maybe buy it back, but never will I buy another one. It's too much stress. I'll never forget all the fun it was, and the exclusivity, but I can't deal with it again, not right now.

man Ndless, you are just as whipped on this car as me... i'm living a hard life right now because of the payments, but ****, sitting behind the wheel whenever the *** i want is worth more than anything else i could be paying for to drive. i haven't even been close to a genuine r before i bought mine, and now i own one. i'm still trying to let it all sink in...which is why thieves **** me the *** off !! you don't really understand what you have until you've dreamed and worked hard for it yourself

well bottom line is I LOVE THE TYPE R! Anything that Honda graces with that badge is golden! I am actually awaiting the new Type R's arrival... RSX-R and CTR... I want to get either one, BUT like someone said... I dont want to live my life in fear. This mentality comes in handy when you can do something about it to prevent it. I know martial arts and can kill someone if needed with my hands... but that will only protect my car if someone try's to mugg me or carjack me! It wont do any good if I am sitting in class being bored out of my mind by some monotone professor. Alarms wont do ****... nothing will protect your car if the person REALLY wants it. If they cant take it, they will RAPE IT! With that, I will be considered by many as being stupid if I pass up a chance to own one of the first new Type R's coming to america... but I dont know if it'll be worth all the pain. I used to come out ot my car and see a little ding... at that time, I just say, "DAMN!" but when I am sweating away in the sun, washing my car, using a clay bar and quick detailer, then waxing my car... it brings tears to my eyes when i see the ding. As time went by, the pain got less and less cuz my car has been scared... to the point now when I dont even care and will sell it soon enough for another car. My biggest concern is dents... I will be in school for a while and that is where I get constant dents! How important is a dent free car to me? I'm considering a Saturn... and ugly lil POS saturn! For the dent free doors! In that same respect... the cheap POS saturn will not likely be broken into or stolen... unless I plan to modify it, which may happen unless i can pick up another car to play with... which isnt likely cuz i am a poor college student... so theft will still be an issue, but i will be dent free... theft will happen to anyone, but the chances a saturn will get jacked is less than the chances a Honda will get jacked. What Type R's need are laser encoded keys like on the Benz or other high end cars... but then like in "Gone in 60 seconds" there is always a way to get a car if someone wants it enough. I dunno... I probably wont get a Type R cuz of theft. I'd probably be better off in an NSX than anything Type R.
