I just have some free time on my hands since i'll be swaping in my motor I wanted to know what kind of high temp paint should I use?

Some people say to use any HIGH temp paint, other say get the VTH 1500..
I just want a clean stock looking silver color. Post them up if you can find pictures on search archives cause i couldn't

After searching these are some of the products that i found people use....but not sure which works best:
-Castro Super Clean
-Acetone from Home depot
-Penzoil degreaser
-Gunk Degreaser
-Simple Green
-Brake cleaner
-aircraft stripper
-oven cleaner... will leave water stains on block
..... water, cloves, scotch brite pad, sand paper, ect

now if I just want a silver stock look.. what should I pick:
* Dupicolor "Cast Coat Gray"

Hot Tanked the block.
Then washed with Simple Green (which didn't get it clean enough for my taste)
So I scrubbed it good with full strengh Castrol Super Clean -- Be careful with it though, if you let it sit on bare aluminum too long, it will actually start to corrode!
Then DupliColor High Temp Ceramic base Primer and Dupli Color DE1615 here.

I think for now I'm going with the High Heat Ceramic Aluminum code DE-1615 ... just because more people have used it...

I like the "stainless steel" color more but not enough info on it.

JDMH22HATCH.... & everyone else
did you guys have to prime the block at all or just clean, degrease, dry then paint?

how long does it take to dry?

Auto Zone sells a high heat silver paint that looks really great when its fresh. The only thing I have found with a painted block is if you get a leak or you just want to clean you engine bay it tends to eat at the paint. If you clear it the paint is protected but with heat from the engine the clear turns a transparent brown color. Kinda makes the motor look like it has an oil leak that you cant clean.

sorry. i got the paint from a local machine shop. and all i did was wipe the block down with some paint thinner, and threw a few light coats on it. and voila! thats how it looks... had it on for about 6 months, and no chipping yet. you cant really see it that well anyways my header is kinda in the way. but it looks nice what you can see

and yea. that was pre engine stand. had to make due with what i had. haha. when your poor you use whatever gets the job done. hahaha

Well if you have the block hot tanked, then most of any dirt will be off. Go over the block with some scotch bright. The use high temp primer. You can start painting from there.
