Default Miss in my race motor

have a H-23 race motor, relatively stock by rules. After a rebuild, was experiencing a miss between 5800 and 6200. It would miss and finally pull thru to the redline. I emptied the fuel, and went to straight race fuel, 103 unleaded and it did help but the miss was still there. I coded a 23 ( knock sensor) but do not know why, it did not go into fail safe mode.
Any suggestions on where to start. Is it distributor or fuel?

Check your knock sensor first if that's what the code was for...

i would guess its fuel related. That rpm range is probably when your injector is at its peak (stays open the longest) and probably just cant flow enough fuel either because its dirty or maybe even the fuel filter is dirty.

I'd suggest to change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner. Also just for the hell of it check the plugs and the distributor cap too.

yup. check the sensor first. that's the biggest thing.

you might get rid of the pinging by retarding your timing slightly rather than going to a higher octane.

fuel pump/filter/injectors are hardly the culprit on a race motor--at least one that's well maintained.

All the knock sensor does is pull timing when the motor is knocking. Sure the sensor could be bad, but why is the motor knocking in the first place. Since its a relatively stock motor there should be no reason for it to knock.

What I said was check the knock sensor...they're very delicate and get f'ed up all the time.
