Probly for looks cuz if your going fast enough where the hatch will fly open, might as well just use the open hatch for down force.

lol, yea pretty much they are for looks. i dont have to orig. caps for the shocks on the rear window so i figured these would make the nut and bolt set-up look a little nicer!

Actually they're used by some race teams after they eliminate the OEM latch/lock system, and need to keep the hatch secure.

No Latch, No dampers, Plastic not glass..

every try to grab the trunk release while strapped down by 5 3 inch straps..

I think the spoon teams used them on there EGs too.

IMO:
Race car + clamps = sweetness
Street car + clamps = wierd looking
