Default Broken Switch = Death

hey all, recently when I was driving i noticed the starter would crank over as i was removing the key from the ignition. Upon further inspection i noticed that the starter will crank over at the start key position, but also at the ACCESSORY position. Needless to say when I want to turn my car off I dont like the starter engaging, so i cant shut it off with the key or i will damage the starter. Lately I have been shutting it off by releasing the clutch fast in fifth gear. That shuts the car off without spinning the starter. How bad is this for the car? For repair I am just going to attach an engine start button, is this the best idea?

Your switch has an obvious short, which is a serious fire hazard. I would get another one from a junk yard and have it keyed to your old switch, or just remove all the lock cylinders from the donor car and switch them over. Use a dremel with a cut off wheel to cut slots in the screws on top of the ignition switch so you can remove them.
