Default Tachometer problems

I have a 92 ex 5spd. For the past couple of days my tach. has not worked at all, it would remain at zero at all times. One night i noticed it jump a few times but then fell back to zero, the next morning i started my car to go to work and the tach. worked fine, as i drove to work it started jumping around and finally fell to zero and for the past two days have not moved. What do you think?

either the tach has quit (bad) or it isn't getting a signal from the ignition.

once my tach completely died on me but it was because my alternator went out. luckily i was about 2 minutes away from the shop that i was taking my car to get looked at.
