There are plenty of places in Orange County. Let me look through some resources.

I remember specifically an article in SCC a few years ago where this one tranny shop in Santa Ana or Costa Mesa keeps coming up on their project car. I was struggling to find that magazine in my bathroom stash, but apparently my gf moved them back to the magazine bin... They were praised for quality of work and reasonable pricing.

One issue I specifically remember, had a S14-converted bring yellow 240sx on the cover, and the article that mentioned the shop was where they rebuilt and converted Sentra SE-R's tranny to dog gears.

Doesn't help to mention all that if I can't get the shops name. More digging when there's light I guess.

My magazine collection is 11 years and counting. Plastic bins galore. I have a hand-me-down Playboy collection from my dad, dating as far back as 1972. Sad to say, I couldn't find a certain issue of SCC.

If you're on S2ki, talk to "pierceman". He just moved from HWOC to HW Downey, but he could probably hook you up with a deal on labor. If you don't want to go the factory route, try http://www.orangecountytransmi...s.htm

Good luck.

i "heard" it's better to buy a used tranny than have a shop TRY to rebuild it. Is rebuilding that much cheaper ? I found a 04' tranny for $1200 bucks through a salvage yard in Fontana...

We let go an AP1 tranny with ~56k miles for $700. Rebuilds gotta be a little cheaper than that.
