...mission...d15z1 into EG sedan... super MPG ....
.... I did so search but not too many anwers.
This swap may sound stupid to most but, performace & horsepower is not all that Honda is know for. In stead of getting a 2001-2004 Civic DX which gets 38mpg hwy, I'm trying to accomplish this with the d15z1.
I just got a 1994 civic LX sedan with blown motor. I also have a friend to has a good VX-d15z1 complete swap for free.
I'm only doing this to accomplish the great MPG & reliable car
Q:
1) should i keep the VX tranny or LX tranny with the D15z1 motor? I believe with the LX tranny acceleration will be better in the city but will there be a big difference in terms of overall MPG?
2) Will I run into any wiring issues... since VX has vtec-e...
3) are the O2 sensors the same & same location?
4) should I use the LX harnes or the VX harness?
I've always been a EF guy since day one 7yrs now... but I apperciate EG's more for less rust, power options & more comfortable ride.. haha
TIA

1 up to you
2 no if you are using vx wiring, but you have to add few more wires for the o2, vtec...
3 yes
4 use the vx less wiring issue.
make sure that you are getting a complete swap, ecu, egr black box, 5 wire o2 this will cost a lot if you don't have it.

Thanks for you reply.
So I should use the VX engine harness & plug up to the LX chassie harness?
Can someone please go into detail of how to wire up vtec on the VX and also how to hook up the VX 5 wire 02.
pictures or links would be really helpful

http://www.gassavers.org/forum for MPG crap, especially d15z1 stuff. Site owner and myself are both planning z1 swaps, he's actually bought his though. In any case, are you only trying to hit 38?

maybe if there is no hills
senario-
my 92 lx with z6 swap and z6 tranny gets same if not better mileage than my old 92 lx with z6 swap and dx tranny. there are alot of hills on the highways here and it bogs down way to easy

more and more of these vtec-e projects! KEEP EM COMIN!
another thing about the cx/vx tranny. I have ran 3 transmissions within the past year.
cx/vx tranny
dx tranny with 3.7226 final (96-00 hatch/HX coupe tranny)
and now my custom hybrid tranny (ex tranny, zc 3rd and 4th, si 0.75 5th)
the dx tranny is a great all around tranny, but my tranny makes my car accel so much faster than the dx tranny. If i did 150 miles of commuting a day on flat terrain, i'd run the cx tranny. and still, i wouldn't even run the stock tranny. I'd get a different gear set and use the cx final drive of 3.25 with a 0.702 5th gear (non-si d-series 5th from 92-00)
I HATE the stock cx/vx tranny. It sucks. the gears are so far apart that to pass someone you can't "lightly downshift" you have to downshift to 3rd gear and take your engine all the way up to redline.
besides we're talking maybe 2-3mpg difference (i doubt that at all) The main advantage is engine noise.
if you want to be slow as **** and take naps between gears run the cx tranny. I guarantee you that you will hate yourself for running it though cause it sucks, and it will suck more in a heavier lx sedan. dx/lx sedans had 4.058 final drives to compensate their heavier weight.
i'm getting very close to finishing my head swap on my d15b8/b7 block. This should get interesting.
