Default Bet you guys didn't know (Some LSD tranny tech)

After spending countless hours taking the tranny apart and trying to figure out how to fit an LSD from a JDM Type R into an LS trann, I found out something very important.

A while ago, I posted here asking if it would fit. Everyone who knew said all I needed was a final drive ring gear (4.400) from either a GSR or a USDM Type R. Fine, that's easy.

However, when putting in a Type R LSD into an LS tranny, not only do you need that, but you need the entire countershaft from a tranny with a 4.400 final drive!!!

Now I'm going to have to call Acura in the morning and order one next day air. That's another two days my car isn't gonna be on the road. It's also probably going to be another couple hundred $$ too. I coulda just bought a Quaiffe from the beginning, but no. $400 for the LSD, another say $200 for the countershaft....coulda shelled out a few more for the real thing!!!!

Great Spring Break this is.

End rant.

Default Do you guys know?

Does anyone know if LS gears will fit onto a GSR/Type R countershaft?

I don't want to buy a countershaft if my gears won't even fit onto them...and I don't feel like running GSR/Type R gears in my Turbo LS.

Shoulda asked me. I could have told you that. I put a Y1 LSD in my LS. Works beautifully.

4.266 FD, so no mods necessary. Only had to shave the case to fit the LSD properly.

Yes, the LS gears will fit on the GSR/ITR main shaft.

Give it some good hits, it'll come apart. Make sure all the bolts are off, there are quite a few.

The snap ring is a C-clip inside the tranny drain bolt.

When you're trying to put the housing back on, you have to compress the C-clip to get the housing down all the way. It's gonna be hard if you don't have one of those C-clip pliers.

Haha. I'm not that good....YET! By the summer, I guarantee I will do my own clutch install. Right now I can service a tranny, but only if it's off the motor already. Gimme a call in the summer!

Don't worry, my car will be the first guinea pig. My car was the first with my suspension install, now I'm doing everyone's.
