Default new motor in but either tranny or motor whines when i downshift.

i put in my new engine and new tranny but when i down shift , especially into 3rd or 2nd it makes a weird whining noise , my stock tranny and motor never did this. it also does it when i accelerate at the beginning of each gear but its loudest when i downshift, its kinda loud too its basically a whine almost like timing belt whine when they are too tight but i know its not that, i think its tranny related. the clutch and throw out bearing are only about 500 miles old. nothing is loose either, tranny has fluid too , any ideas? tranny doesnt grind or anything either but this noise scares me.

i changed the tranny fluid today that i just put in yesterday and it came out like a silver milky color.. it was brand new from yesterday. i dunno if tranny has dirt from sittin for a while or what but it still makes the noise when i downshift and or drive at the beginning of each gear.. i cant figure it out. there was no metal chips in it though.

Not sure if you had the tranny rebuilt, but your tranny may be messed up. It kind of sounds like the problem that many of us are having with the input shaft bearing of the tranny? Kee[ us posted on this.

As above either the input shaft bearing or the mainshaft bearing...

There is a decent chance it could still go away though... depending on how bad it is...

Get good fluid and give it a couple changes...

I had to flush out a used trans I got a good 3 times with synchromesh before the grinds all worked themselves out...

Redline did wonders for my original tranny too... although obviously it didn't fix it... eventually you'll have some bearings to replace.

So you're going to buy another trans because ONE SMALL part MIGHT go in the next 5-100,000 miles?

Ok whatever floats your boat.

I mean if you're going to do the work to remove that trans and put another in why not get the existing trans rebuilt so you KNOW that all the bearings and synchro's are in good order instead of buying another and HOPING they're all fine.
