Default Need Help = Customer motor question

We took apart a Ls motor today for a customer to check for bearing issues. We noticed that the motor had no thrust washers. We pointed this out to the customer and he said " his motor builder told him they were not need in Ls motors, or even when using Ls cranks in ANY block vtec or not."

Well I simply dont not agree with this and wanted the opinions of the board - thank you.

Thats what we told him - so he called his "builder" and they told him they were not needed. He also said the car would not go into gear ( 1st ) we also explained that could be caused from the crank moving as he tied to engauge the clutch -

Wow are you serious? It's not a 7 bolt DSM!
I would recomend you tell him no never go back there. It would be one thing to forget, but not needed?

You might be able to get away without a thrust bearing. But DON'T EVER push in the clutch or start the engine. LOL

I had the thrust washers drop in a motor of mine. The crank walked like crazy and eventually it was FUBAR.

what's scary is if people here on H-T sarcastically replied with "nah..don't need em!"...

he might have took it literally and thought his "builder" was right.

no thrust shims what an idiot builder , unless he was running a main bearing that had a thrust shim built into it like vw's do. no thrust = mad crank walk which = pounded out bearing saddels
