Differences between Type S & Type R??
I searched and either I suck at the internet or there is no info. I know the cams and intake mani are different, is there anything else? Is it worth the extra cash to get the JDM K20 or is the USDM one just as good?
Thanks for the help
Thanks for the help

It's pretty easy to get a K20A* (DC5 Type R) motor up to around 240 wheel horses with just a good computer. There must be substantial cam, intake and head design differences for it to be able to do that.

I'm guessing you would have to do cams, pistons, and all that good stuff to get a Type S up that high? All Type R internals will fit in a Type S right? Is the final drive the only thing different between the trannies? Sorry for all of the questions, I've just recently became interested in the K series motors.

Yes, the higher numerical "ITR" axle ratio was delivered in the USDM EP3 Si (for all years 2002-2005) and the USDM DC5 Type S (for 2005 and 2006).
You can buy that ring/pinion from any Honda or Acura dealer.
There is also a 5.00 axle ratio available for these transmissions because of the USDM CRV K24.

You can approximate the results, yes. However, there are a number of other incremental changes to the K20A* motor that are different from the K20A2 motor. It would not be cost effective finding these parts just to be able to have the higher redline more reliably, and you're going to find that the cost of bearings and rods to be prohibitive.
It's not all that expensive to get a complete K20A* motor if you are determined to have the DC5 ITR motor.
The user "Nikos" is a good resource on all K motor affairs, if you want to ask him directly. The moderator "B18Cxr" is also a good resource for anything K motor related. Both of them have already made enough mistakes with K motors that they'd be helpful keeping you from making the same mistakes, and in the case of "B18Cxr" he also has a shop that might prove useful to you in your future builds.

To turn a Type S transmission into an ITR transmission, you'd just want to change the axle ratio and add a factory Torsen unit. Both are available quite cheaply. You'll find the Torsen units on eBay all the time for just a few hundred dollars.

To set things straight, differences include: No sunroof, full cloth interior/Recaro, Brembo brake system, aluminum lca's, sways, exhaust system, suspension, exterior pieces, 11.5 compression ratio from pistons, more aggressive cams, better flowing head, valve/spark plug cover, 4.7 fd in oppossed to our 4.3, gearings 5 and 6 are shorter, flywheel, intake manifold, and HIDs with black housings.
