i have noticed sometimes when im applying the brakes their is a grinding sound and its not like its every time..any ideas...i took the tires off and took a look and my brake pads seemed all right any thing else that could cause this problem its a 96 integra ls with drilled and slotted rotors in the front could these have something to do with it i bought the car with this all on their

 

maybe your pads are wearing unevenly, and you can't see where they are worn down.

depending on how "loud" the grinding sound is.....its basically your pads wearing down with your cross drilled and slotted rotors. If its noticeably loud to where people outside driving next to you can hear....I'd inspect every part of your braking system down to the rotor, hub etc, and whether or not everything is put on correctly. Just to be safe......do that anyway

 

Take off the pad and look to see if it's wearing evenly. Maybe the person who changed em last didn't push the piston all the way back in and the part of the pad that you thought was good, the opposite side was metal on metal.

 

Either your pads are bad or have uneven wear. Or the previos owner didn't put any brake lubricant or anti-squeak on the shims. Just take the caliper of and do a quick inspection of the pads. Its actually really easy, and i only say this because i just did my brakes two days ago.

thanks ill check it out more closely all i did before was take the tire off and do a visual check cause didnt have to much time thanks for the help

 

maybe a portion of the rotor is rusted and therefore grinding when applying the brakes. definately do a thorough brake inspection.

 

If your brakes are dragging and overheating, the pads may have crystalized and is causing the grinding.

 

Does this happen after the car has been sitting for a while? Rain, snow, or high humidity will cause the rotors to rust while siitting.

 

well i bought the car the dealer said it was sitting for about a week or so but i only noticed it like a month after i bought it give or take but i think when the car is warm and i just turned it on after sitting over night i notice it more but as far as i can tell its thier anytime just more so when its cold
