quick question on a head gasket replacement
replacing a head gasket on a 90 model b18a integra.. took all 10 bolts out of head and everything else removed and out of way except intake which i want to come off with the head. car has 217k mi. on it and suddenly white smoke so i have it stripped down now ready for the head to come off and the head is stuck!! i got the cherry picker out and strapped it to the head and it started to lift the car up!!! what is the deal? i have done a few head gasket jobs on b18b's and c's but never an a.. is there something strange i am missing? let me know asap thanks.
uhh... did you take off the timing belt & exhaust manifold? You said you didnt take off the intake... did you unbolt the intake from the bracket that it bolts to on the block?
uhh.. to get the head bolts out i automatically would have to remove the timing belt.. i had no idea that the intake was bolted to the block anywhere.. i know it isnt on any other of the b-series that i have worked on.. if anyone could confirm that there are bolts attaching the intake to the block also please let me know and if anyone could come up with a picture showing this i would greatly appreciate it.. thanks.
their is a intake brace in the back of the engine i just did mine yesterday but right now i can not think where it is for the life of it. look it up in helms on where the brace is for removing the intake mani i know there is one. but you dont need to take the intake manifold off. hope i helped
Yes you do need to take the intake manifold off if it's coming off with the head(i assume he is doing this to keep from having to replace that pain in the *** intake manifold gasket.
look:

see that black bracket to the left? I believe there are 2 studs on the bottom of the manifold that go through it and there are nuts under there, or maybe bolts that go through it into the manifold, not sure but regardless i'm pretty sure you will have to get a wrench/socket on the underside of the intake manifold.
