Default noise in clutch area [throwout bearing] ?

hi all, i have a 92 teg 5speed. here it is. when the car is in nuetral it makes a chattering sound.but when i push down on the clutch it goes away. and when im in gear and i downshift it makes the sound again. like its grabbing. can it be the throwout bearing? and another thing is when i turn sometimes the noise goes away also, then when i straighten the wheel it comes back. let me know thanks

everything is pointing to throw out bearing until you mentioned the wheel turning part, thats weird. if you push the clutch in and it goes away, then you take the clutch out and it comes back, it should be a throwout bearing.

could be your input shaft bearing. it makes a whrrring sound or if it's in worse condition a clicking sound.

true, and if it is, i would just get another tranny. might cost a little more but you dont have to crack the case open and worry about sealing it properly.

i agree. my 94 coupe w/ a ls trans used to do almost the same. probaly the bearing has excessive clearance hence, when you push clutch in it puts load on the input shaft and in turn on the input shaft bearing. with the load on the bearing it's enough to close the excessive clearance.
