Default Another Timing Question?

I'm getting ready to do a timing adjustment on my 98 b18b1 well I already found an article on How-To do it but had a question I know the timing light gets attached to the #1 cylinder but where exactly? on the plug wire? inside the wire? and also I read the article on c-speed racing and they said my car would need to idle at 750 or so but my car idles at 1000 after I cleaned the throttle body...but when I turn it off and then turn it back on the rpms idle at 750 or so instead of 1000 but after a while it rises back up so should I warm up my car then turn it off and then back on to adjust it with the car idling at 750 or just adjust it while it idles at 1000? thanks. By the way that happened to me before last time I cleaned the throttle body but it went away after a few weeks I guess when the TB collected some deposits...dunno why though. Thanks for any replies.

jump the CEL plug, connector on #1 wire, adjust distributor...do it at whatever u idle at..let it warm up first

Thanks for the quick response any idea on my loss in power might be due to bad timing? my car feels stronger at lower rpm's then it does at higher rpm's. Also, will the cam timing have anything to do with this? the mechanic who changed my timing belt adjusted the cam gears but when he put both of the arrows up it looked as if they fell back a little bit but not much and my car now goes up to 7000 rpm instead of the 6800 they normally go to with just a C.A.I. I don't know bout you guys but that seems weird to me. Well any help with the cam gear question is greatly appreciated.

yeah timing can have a big impact...if u have a chance get a timing light and check the timing.

to check the cam timing u have to rotate the crank pulley to line up the timing mark and check the arrows on the cam gear...i might forget something but i recommend finding a manual and double check.

ok thanks for the info I'll do the adjustment this weekend hopefully and hope that improves performance if not then a compression test might give me the results I need.
