the stock intake system is very well made
a spoon snorkel will work just fine...
as for aftermarket intake systems...
J's Racing
Mugen
ASM
Gruppe-M
These are all very good, and all work differently. Im going Mugen because of fitment issues.
You have to cut the stock hood with a Mugen and J's intake, remember that.

thata what i did with spare stuff i had...cost less then $30 for misc stuff i needed....
no need to waste your $$ on a "NAME" intake that pulls roughly the same #'s..... i did mine because i hated how the stock one looked and now have a mean sound!

Power-wise, the best intake is probably the AEM v2. It's not as fancy as all of the JDM stuff, and some of the JDM systems offer better throttle response, appearance, ect., but as far as power production goes, it gets the job done
More performance for less cost= teh Rox3rz

^ ... actually... the filters on a stick intakes give more power then a snorkel on the dyno... however there is still that 3%-5% error margin on a dyno... which equates to that 3-5rwhp increase from one of those filters on a stick... (aem, injen, 4IG)....
now the snorkel type intakes will not give you more power on the dyno.. maybe 1 or 2rwhp on the dyno.... however.. it's more efficient....when the car is moving the air is being directly force fed into the intake.. unlike the filters on a stick which just suck up the air in that particular area....
also filters on a stick tend to get heat soaked... on our cars there is lots of aluminum tubing for a CAI filter on a stick.... eventually that tube gets quite hot.. and the efficiency of it is reduced drastically....

AEM just yeilds power because it used a k/n filter...
the snorkels are great for driving situations, and if you add an aftermarket filter to a stock airbox with the snorkel, you will make the same power, if not more when driving. snorkels just don't show increases on the dyno in high numbers...

I would have to suggest the K&N FIPK (or something like that). Its very well made and has a little heatsheild box thingy for the airfilter. Looks pretty good, although not as good as the Mugen or J's setups, imo looks better than the huge double bubble gruppe m, and makes decent power without the fear of having a filter sit so close to the ground, just waiting to suck up a puddle.
