Default about JDM d16y7

Hi there, I bought an 89 crx si last week. It came with the d16y7 engine because they swaped. The only problems is that I dont have the engine papers. The person who I bought it from said that he checked with stolen vehicles department and they told him that the engine wasnt stolen, wasnt even registered.

any way, how good is this engine ? Im gona swap possibly a new D16, possibly a Y8 engine because of the paper work.

I know I know I was stupit when I bought the car.

D16Y7 is a USDM motor, came in the 96-00 Civic DX. Nothing JDM about it.
How good is it...it'll run, you can turbo it and make it fun, but that's about it.

Here's a question...is the valve cover on your engine black with the H logo and HONDA on it, or aluminum with just the word HONDA?

Putting a vtec head on a non vtec block. In you case a y8 head or z6 head prolly. I've actually heard that a y7 block with y8 head is better than a y8 swap. Good luck.

OK, good, that means you have the original Si intake and exhaust most likely, and you are running the OBD0 factory ECU from the CRXSi.

The car should perform just about exactly like the D16A6 it came with.

Keep the engine and don't worry about papers. You said it wasn't stolen, so drive it till it blows and then do a swap.

You don't need papers for a swap, unless you are trying to sell something that is stolen a lot like a B18C5, or the vaunted S2000 seats. Even then, all you need is proof of ownership so an angry H-T mob doesn't burn your house down. The last four motors in my car did not have a tranny VIN nor did it have anything else identifying it. As long as all your chassis VINs match up call it a day.
