Question about restoring my rims..
I just purchased some Prelude factory wheels at a decent price. The wheels have a yellowish tint on some of the wheels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's just from the clearcoat. If it is just from the clear, will it go away if I strip the wheels with a paint stripper? I am interested in polishing them, and if the yellow is just from the clear, I figured I could strip them and then polish them so they look good again.
Also, my school has a bead blaster. I was wondering if there would be any benefit if I bead blasted the wheels before I polish them.
Thanks.. Here is a pic of the wheels. You can kinda see the yellowish tint..

Before you go through all that trouble try something called "Spray 9". It's pretty nasty stuff (wear safety glasses and maybe gloves) I have used it before to take off yellow stains and other really stuborn stains on rims before, works wonderfully. I am not too sure if it is safe for clear coat rims so I never use it unless it is a last resort and I try to use it as seldom as possible.
Do one rim at a time. Hose the rim with water, they spray a fair amount of "Spray 9" on it, brush hard with an old tooth brush or a plastic bristle brush, and then hose away. Don't let the "Spray 9" sit on there for long at all (30 seconds maybe) and do not let it dry at all. The reason for the caution, again, is that I am not to sure how safe it is for clear coat rim use.
Found usually with the rest of the general purpose cleaners.
