I have the factory steel plates. The holes in them are very small it looks like they could be opened up to accept bigger speakers.

Before I hack up my mounts and buy a set of 8inch speakers, will it fit?
Do they make 8inch 3 ways?

yeah, i think it can. i remember reading a thread about installing aftermarket speakers in the back. only thing is that u have to cut out a little bit of the board or something like that. can't remember. but then again i can be wrong. can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thaqt looks great, If I were interested in putting rear speakers in mine, it would be something like that. Maybe fiberglass a little enclosure on the back side, and fill it with polyfill. That would give it a little bass response if subs were out of the question.

I had small 6" subs in my old crx, they sounded really good. They were deep, but lots of room.

Well, I have some cheap Sony Explode 6.5" front speakers in the doors, and OEM rear speakers. I was thinking of 6.5 or 8 inch subwoofers with an amp since I've heard that amps will help even mildly crappy speakers sound good. I don't want a box in the back shifting around and taking up space or asking to be stolen.

without proper enclosures, anything, especially that big, will sound like ****. if you don't want to go that far, mounting plates and 6x9's or 6.5s is all i would do. without the enclosure in that spot you are really just looking to hear midrange and up- it is just too flimsy.

Okay. 5.25 and standard 6.5 inch speakers will fit without modifications. An oversize 6.5 inch (which sometimes sells as a 6.75 inch speaker) will fit if you simply enlarge the hole on the stock plate. As for anything else, you might be able to get it to fit. But as others have said, there is always the issue of not having an enclosure there. You might want to check out the thread about the JDM enclosures. Someone is considering producing replicas of these enclosures and selling them. And he is looking for interested parties. You might want to go there are PM him. The only catch in this case is that it appears that his replicas will only fit stock-size speakers. So you are probably out of luck if you are looking to accommodate an 8 inch driver.
