dude just piece together a turbo kit and save yourself bout two grand. go to homemadeturbo.com and check that site out. more FI info than anyone could ask for
in the long run isnt it better to go with a supercharger as far as maintenance costs?
i new a dude with a 4door b16 92' civic with it and the thing pulled like shyt on my buds ls/vtec hatch... im not trying to run sick 1/4 times i just want more lowend power for the street. thanks for the info
anyone have the vortec?

it comes down to user preference. but if you properly size your turbocharger, you will have the same powerband as the supercharger, and it wont run out of breath up top. for the money i would go turbo, you'll get much more for your $$.
there was one guy using the vortec kit in his crx on here, with a little searching you should be able to find him.
edit: did some searching for you

it definately comes down to your preference on which to choose maintanance is about the same but the superchargers definately are dependant on engine rpm alot more than the turbo. and as for the charge box you dont need it unless you plan on running above 8 psi same goes for the intercooler on the turbo its not even needed unless your running over 8psi

The only maintanence cost for a supercharging (New out of the box) I can see is the occasional shredded belt, can't say that for the average tossed together turbo kit.

With a little bit of effort you could piece togeather a more reliable HMT setup for prob. around if not less then 1/4 the price of that SC with the intercooler.
I run the water cooled setup on a 88 CRX. I haven't found a single thing to complain about. The car isn't an all out drag car by any means, but it definately pulls hard. Once the suspension is here though it will probably become a roadrace car.
My brother used to have the Vortech on his 'oo Si. And his good friend has the same setup. They pull pretty nice. Whether it's worth the price, like everyone else has been saying, it's really up to you.
One thing I'll add to this though. . .take a close look at how they are mounted. You attach things for that supercharger to just about every part of the motor. Our friend had some tranny problems, and he had to disassemble just about the entire damn supercharger just to drop the tranny!

my friend had some kit on his 00 si... i forget the brand.. procharger maybe?? but yeah...
every time he took it to the track it'd snap or slip a belt... on the street it would hold as long as he didn't launch it from a stop. at 11 lbs it felt like a normal si, it was pretty shitty... stock srt4's would stomp all over him

Centripetal SC's are known for their efficiency over roots-style SC's (JRSC). Roots style can always produce & hold possitive pressure instantly, unlike Vortecs.
JRSC's are also easier to install, and are limited mostly to just the intake manifold area. Most people with them seem to really like them. And fwiw, the V8 guys love the roots-style blowers.
As for the turbo/SC debate - honestly, when was the last time you absolultely needed a FULL 10psi extra below 3k? Based on 120lb/tq at 3k, NA or big turbo (0psi) gives you 68bhp, 8psi SC gives 90-100bhp. 1k more rpm, and its switched around. Most people can downshift or slip the clutch with the same results as a SC's extra "low-end". And for what most SC'd Honda motors put out, you could use a small turbo with nearly the same boost response.
