Autocross is mostly driver. I'm sure you could get a Zamboni to beat a Type R.
I've beaten ITRs in every single car I've ever autocrossed. My Isuzu pickup even (granted, I only beat one ITR with that one), my GS-R, and ever my street tired conquest.
Autox is at least 95% driver.

Autox is all drivers.. Many of the ITR drives don't admit how many times they have been passed on the tracks
Auto-x mean nothing. I've seen a stock neon beat a 1997 ferrari, and a 2000 Z06! A lot of it is whos willing to beat up their car the most.

I really like the new mazdas...We test drove a PR5 when we were shopping for our matrix and it felt well sorted. The Martix on the other hand.........
Auto-X especially, allows the driver to prove his/her meddle and proves that the DRIVER is what wins races, the car is just along for the ride.

IMHO, autocross is a big
i see it like this, its like seeing only one tit on a fly chick. sure its cool cause you saw a tit and stuff, but there's a lot more to be had....
i mean i'd rather hit the real track and use more than two gears, but autocrossing is cute and a good way to spend $20 and an afternoon i guess.

Oh I agree 100%. AutoX's here you usually hit three gears and sometimes 4 gears (not including reverse) at places like GIR (Gainesbille International Raceway). But still, 1-1.5 minutes of entertainment and 45 minutes of working the course is not nearly as much fun to fender to fender racing or even lapping days.

Fender to fender is fine if you can afford to wad your car up and have a new one by next weekend. If roadracing was cheap and harmless, we'd all do it. But if autox was easy, then the roadracers would do it

Jason-
who says racing is the best!

I never said autox was easy, but it IS boring like DV said. After doing 45 minute sessions on sebring and such a 45 second autocross feels like a lap dance at a strip club, sure it's fun and all, but you wont enjoy busting a nut in the chick.

lol Got a little laugh out of this, but nothing compared to that mazda thread. haha
I wouldn't even think about wasting my time posting anything on that thread. Basically just like a bunch of people already said, you can beat an ITR, Viper, F50, you name it, on a tricycle in autox (as long as you were a good enough rider and the guy in the Viper was a bad enough driver - it CAN happen.) But seeing people pat themselves on the back by starting a new thread like that guy did is very amusing. Did anyone ask him if he beat a Type R that showed up to run the regional in his area?
I would love to see the look on that guy's face if he were to run against a national level ITR driver and get spanked easily by over 4 seconds. A few folks from H-T could be in intensive care right now due to massive lacerations on their back if they were to pat themselves for every M3, NSX, C5, etc. they ever beat at the autox.
FYI, last year's GS national champ (ITR driver) is on here (usually in the competition forum), and I'm sure he could be one of those people with really bruised up backs if he wanted to. (and could also severely shatter that MP3 driver's ego.)
Regarding autox vs road racing/track lapping. I've done both for a few years now. Doing a season of lapping days is much more expensive than doing a season of autox, while running a season in ITA well... don't even bother comparing cost with autox. Sure track days give more track time per $, but what if you can't afford to pay $200 bucks in entry fees, plus hotel&food money, plus brake pads after every 3-4 events, plus at least twice or 3 times the amount of tires per season, plus the inevitable $$$ "track incident". I've gotten to know a few really good drivers at the autox over the years since I started, that just can't afford to do anything more. They would love to, but just don't have the dough. I could bet on anything that if they were to have money to build a good racecar, they would be easily among the front runners in club racing. There are also those people who are very well off financially that just stick solely to autox. Some of these guys are also very good drivers, but for some reason (which I currently don't understand) chose not to club race. Autox is less exiting than racing on the track which ever way you look at it, but not everybody can afford the latter. Heck, I'm sure a Z06 is more exiting than any car I ever drove, but I sure am not even close to being able to afford one. But if the day ever comes when I would be in such a position, I wouldn't think twice about getting one.
The same thing goes for autox vs club racing for most people.
