Default ATS question

OK quick question, I have a mugen header, exhaust, carsound cat, and comptech ice box. At my home I have an ATS final, Toda flywheel, and Exedy clutch.

Now I'm wondering will my car be faster than a stock ITR from 0-60. I'm thinking because 2nd tops out at 52.6 mile an hour with the ATS the extra shift would actually make my car slower to 60. Is this true??? If I raced a stock ITR would I win or lose to 60?? If I would win, by how much and if I lost by how much???? (if the drivers and tires were the same)

The ATS final drive is meant to aid in situations such as coming out of corners at low rpm and having useable power rather than having to make a downshift.

If you're concerned about racing ITRs in a straight line, then add big power mods so you can blow stock ITRs away.

well even if I'm not only racing in a straight line, what about on the straight on a track, wouldn't that extra shift cause me to fall behind/???

On the track, I'd say the gains would outnumber the losses. There ARE situations where it would work against you, such as in a sweeper where you would normally run your car up to redline with the stock FD. With the ATS, you'd be at redline at a lower speed in the same sweeper, but you wouldn't ever want to shift in the middle of the sweeper.

yes 0-60 will be worse than stock itr b/c of the shift.... unless you raise your rev limiter

But with your power adders, you might be able to make up the 1.0sec that the shift takes.

on a track, on a straight, You should not have to shift any more than a stock ITR... you will just be in a higher gear to begin with... If the stock ITR was in 3rd and shifted to 4th, you would probably be in 4th and shift to 5th.

.....oh yeah, I forgot to mention that maybe two itr's (one bone stock, and one with only ats final) in a straight line:

Maybe the 0-60 would be the same b/c the ats equipped car would accelerate a little better from 1-2-3, so maybe it would make up enough for the extra shift. I doubt it, but it's possible.

Only one way to find out.....

Ken, I think the ATS car would be slightly quicker with the gearing but, would place it even when you factor in the shifting.

I have not yet raced a stock R head to head. What I can tell you is that off the line 1st gear has a traction issue with the ATS than with the OEM/ITR. Relearning to launch correctly is what may give you a slight advantage as well.

But, as stated already, the FD is really for more useable power in the turns and Not needing to downshift. It definately pulls harder all through the gears and you don't need to be as high in the RPM to have power. Do Not misunderstand me, the FD doesn't give more power it just makes using the ITR's power in alot of circumstances easier.

It is Not an end all mod for Everyone that is the best for all situations and tracks but, it sure as Hell is good for my applications.

A.
