Ok I tried searching this, but I felt like I did not get good info. My gas meter is inaccurate. I got a 93si(hatchback). From what I know its either from the meter in the dash or the sensor in the tank. How do i go about testing to try to solve my problem because having a working gas meter is kinda of nice feeling. I hate how you hesitate everytime you hit the gas knowing it can die on you at any drop, when ever on the E. THank you.

 

how in accurate is it. probably jut a bad sending unit in the tank

 

its about 1/4 to 1/5 bad. I would lean a little more to the 1/5 most of the time.

Is it inaccurate or inprecise?

inprecise would mean it sometimes reads +1/4 of what it actually is and sometimes -1/4 of what it actually is

inaccurate means it always reads +1/4 or always reads -1/4.

If it is inaccurate you can try just adjusting it somehow (I have no clue how)

 

it's also called a fuel gauge

I wasn't teaching you grammar, I was asking for some clarification in order to be better able to help you or in order that others may more readily help you.

edit: I forgot to tell you, don't forget that most tanks in most cars are non-linear. That is to say the first quarter is always bigger than the last quarter. Tanks are not perfect cubes and guages usually read depth.

Yeah man that was my fault. But any way back to main point. The fuel guage will be on a quarter tank and than it will drop down to the E, and than it will go back to being a quarter tank on level ground. It just kinda goes up and down on its own sometimes, but not by much.

That's somewhat normal especially if it's the last little bit. It does float around in there a lot. I dunno, if I were you I would just live with it. Probably cost you an arm and a leg to try to make it better. But, sadly, I have no solution for you. Sorry
