Blew the motor in my s2000 tonight, few questions
I just got in from spending 4 hours of my christmas eve on the side of the interstate.
This is aimed mainly at anyone with knowledge of honda warranty.
I was driving my car spiritually, and heard a loud pop, as in something fell out under the car and a very harsh vibration. I then pulled over, got out but couldnt see anything because it was so dark but i did smell the presence of oil.
The engine currently will crank over and wont start. I did ONCE get it to start and it was clacking and vibrating like HELL.
1. Ive recently heard they will look at the ecu to find out what you were doing with the car, Which I was indeed driving it hard like it was intended when the problem happened.
is this true? Also how is that memory stored into the ecu can it be erased?
2. what will honda try to do with my engine, Will they just replace it with a reman, or will they do a shitty job and tear it down and only replace the one componet that failed
3. Will they try to give me the bullshit run arround and try to deny my warranty I paid over 1700bucks for?
Just trying to find out what im in for on monday.

dude, sometimes **** just happens. it could have been something a previous owner had something to do with. and sometimes crap just breaks. vtecluder i really don't the'll give you too much trouble since the car is completely bone stock, just be polite, professional and reasonable when you take the car in.
good luck

Warranty companys do things in the cheapest possible ways. When my rear blew they decided they wanted to "rebuild it" instead of just putting a new unit in. The rebuild with $600 labor came out to $2900. An entire new unit cost about $2900-$3,000. Go figure.

I havent given information because I simply Dont know the extent of the damage yet.
Engine oil was changed a week prior , fresh mobil 1. Dipstick was full when i checked it on the side of the interstate.
I was rolling at very high speeds of approximately 140 at high rpms. Engine Has 65000 miles on it and something went wrong.

Just take it to Honda and have them diagnose it, you have the warranty. Unless you misshifted or had another driver error, they should fix it. Sometimes parts in the engine just fail.
well if its bone stock your ok...
im not sure if the ecu will store the 140 mph speeds, but i think it only stores shift points...
their probably not going to give you a new motor, but just try to re-build yours...
personally i think if you take it to Honda, they will just try to get you to buy an 06 and trade yours in as is. they want to make money of anything.

Yeah and offer him like $12K for his car because of its condition. Turn around fix it and sell it for $20K. Stealerships.

i suspect by his line of questioning his poor driving abilities caused a misshift...hence why he wants to "erase" the memory

Hey fuckface were you there when this happened? NO. Reguardless of what happened, The warranty is purchased for a reason- for protection. All Warranty is a large insurance policy. If Something happens, It should be fixed.
By your reasonale, If you wreck your own car and its deemed your fault, Insurance shouldnt help you in your time of need. Because YOU wrecked it.
GTFO dumbass.
Merry christmas to everyone else.. Ill find out on monday what the deal is.

who cares what his reasons are, the fact is hes trying to get information about fixing his motor from the warranty claim, he didn't ask for criticism on driving...

I take no offense atall to any of these shmucks comments.
I have seen top pro race drivers mis-shift, and theres nothing that anyone can say, to offset that.
I would like to see what honda will do for me, due that that expensive extended warranty is just a large insurance policy and the dealer will get paid, and I will get my car fixed and everyone will be well.
If they dont fix it, Ill probally just swap out the 2.0 for the 2.2L and go ahead and toss in a new clutch too.
My honda dealership has always been pretty good to me, Im a returning customer and as long as they can prove theres a problem they have always fixed it up.
If they refuse to cover it, Ill just do it myself, I work on cars for a living Id just have to eat the cost for the engine.
I Looked up under it today theres oil dripping down from the Oil pan/trans bellhousing. Its hard to see, but this engine was bone dry and 100% taken care of, So Sounds like there must be some sort of hole in the block from a rod possibly.

A warranty is intended to protect you from defects in manufacturing, not lack of driving ability. Warranty is NOT the same as insurance. I don't know what happened to your car since I wasn't there. If it came apart for no reason, fine, warranty should cover you. If it blew up because you mis-shifted it, your *** should pay for it.
