Default Quaife Quick-Ratio Rack and Pinion

Just wondering if anyone has bought/installed/had experience with tearing down the manual rack to parts etc. I have had the rack for over a year now and am getting itchy now that the car is in storage again to do it. Its going on a 1990 hatch w/ manual steering, and I plan on getting Moroso's adjustable tie rod ends to finish up the steering project. Just wondering if there are any snags that I might encounter that someone else may have experienced. Thanks in advance.

I have heard nothing but good reviews from the quaife rack and pinion.

You will need an alignment once you are done installing it though.

i was unaware that the moroso tie rod ends were designed specifically for drag racing, the reason I wanted to put them on there was they ability to tweak my toe angle without having to take each side off everytime. The application requires drilling out the spindle taper to allow a bolt to be used, and a solid bearing as the pivot instead of the ball-joint at the end of the tie rod. If the application is specific to drag racing vehicles for the reason of longevity due to the bearing possibly wearing out due to dirt/wear because of daily driving, i understand, however I would still use it becuase I don't drive the car nearly enough for the bearings to wear out enough where it would become a concern. I have read over the specs on this part but I haven't seen where they list it as a drag-spec part. Just interested where you heard that or know of someone running them, what have they said about them, and thanks I will check that forum.

youre going to need the DX or HF steering rack to make the proper swap. the Si steering rack housing is different. and quaife designed their new rack for DX/HF racks.

the difference is in the pinion length and the depth that it locates the teeth. if you put it in the Si housing, their supplied pinion will only contact haf the racks gear. not really good for longevity. so get a spare DX/HF rack anyway. then you can install it before taking out your old rack and make a quick swap.

how is this any different than OEM design? you dont have to pop the balljoint off to adjust toe... just loosen the jam nut and spin the inner tie rod in or out of the outer tie rod.

the rack and pinion are going into a dx hatch w/ manual steering so the swap won't be a problem, as far as it being different, yes i understand that the toe can be adjusted like that, i like the accessability and the fact that it eliminates the balljoint alltogether, one less point of weakness to wear out, get loose etc.

i would worry about the ends if you actually race the car, especially if you are using r compounds, i dont think they were made for auto-x or road racing, i would just buy new ends, i replaced mine with MOOG brand they have a grease fitting on top and i regrease them every time i have the wheels off, it flushes all the old grease and any contaminants out
