NEED A LIL HELP ON CHANGING RINGS
hey has any one ever changed rings on a 91 integra b18a1 motor just wondering if i could leave my motor in my car and just pull the pan and do it with the motor in my car and wat all do i have to do i mean i have the manual for my car but im a lil slow wat do i have to do pull the pan and can i jsut disconnect the rods from the crank and do it that way or shoudl i pull my motor out??? any one know
Not sying its impossible but it definitely will be easier to get to with the motor out. Considering all of the parts you have to take off you might as well yank the motor especially if your going to over bore it which is not a bad idea. this makes for a better ring seat. basically strip the whole block of its parts. you can leave the crank in if your not taking it to the machine shop. Do lots of research. its not something you want to do if youve never at least seen or helped do it. lots of little details to remember. Search search and more research. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well it not that hard to do at all. In fact I left my block in the car when I did mine and just replace the ring without honing anything because the cyl wall look like it was still in good shape. Been almost 1,000 miles now and the car is running strong. I wouldn't recommend doing it my way, but yes you could do it with the block still on the car.

I definitely recommend getting a Helms manual. My Helms saved my life on the ring replacement since there are tons of steps.
I did mine with the motor still in the car and just pulled the head and oil pan to get the pistons out, honed it, and then put it back together with new gaskets and rings.

get a manual and someone who has some experience if possble. Don't assume it will be a quick job, take your time and be patient, STOP and post questions if your not sure on a procedure! Good luck.

thankz bro i didnt know that they had to come out the top i thought that they would come out the bottom should i still hole my cylinders cause my cylinder walls have no nick or any thing they look good
I'd do it right the first time, since you're going through all the trouble to tear it apart anyway, you might as well do all your maintenance when you do the rebuild like water pump, belts, valve lash, head gasket, and get the block honed and then reassemble, you don't want to have to tear it all apart again if you start burning oil.

Yes, anytime the rings are changed, the cylinder bore needs to be honed. You cannot put new rings in a used bore because the rings will not seat and you will be burning oil again. This is the most vital part of the piston ring replacement.
You need to use 400 grit or finer honing stones.
