1) Buy oil and filter
2) shut off car and let it cool down a bit
3) jack the front of ur DA by the front crossmember
4) put jack stands under either side of the front cross member (where the two stabilizers go to )
5) loosen drain plug, but do not drain yet
6) loosen filter and let it drop and drain out the filter into a bucket
7) install new filter (make sure the old filter gasket is still attached to the oil filter, double gasketing
)
8)drop the oil pan drain plug and let it drain untill there is only a slow drip coming out
9) reinstall drain plug ( dont over tighten, next time u go to change the oil it'll be a bitch)
10) add oil @ about 3.5 quarts w/stock b18a and then check dip stick
11) start the car and recheck the dip stick (oil level will drop once entering filter)
12) check under car to ensure there are no leaks
13) get out the jack and pull the jack stands and slowly let her down
that should be all u need, any questions just post em up

You are right the proper way, actually is to drain the oil from the pan, before replacing the filter. The reason you do this is because you run a risk of forgeting to replace the filter before re-filling with new oil.

good luck, i hope you continue to do your own work on your car. being pissed when bolts break/other inconveniences > paying the stealership a shitload, or even worse... some shady *** shop that will rip you off or screw up your car. my dads gf brought her truck into a shop to get a tuneup once.... those ****** charged her $400 to do it!

You dont need to replace the drain plug unless its really beat up, but be sure to replace the washer that goes on the drain plug. Other then that a filter and ~5 qt's is all you need.

I am talking about the Magnetic Oil Plug Drain. Made by Infinitude. It is called a Neo D Magnetic Oil Plug. Pulls metallic residue inside your oil tank. So when you do your next oil change, you will also extract metallic particles that are stuck on the Magnetic Oil Plug.
pretty sure the 1.6l hondas are full at about 3.5 qts
as for the metalic drain plugs (there are many companys that make them) they were actully intended for use after a recently rebuilt engine, but I still use one every oil change

4 quarts puts it right in between the 2 dots on integras with the 1.8 motor. </TD></TR></TABLE>
okay so they take ~4.5 qts. Which is why i said you need 5.
personal preference i guess.. ?

So you still need 5 quarts! I never said it called for the complete 5, but unless you know where to buy oil in different incermients than QT's youll have to buy five.
This is petty bullshit to be bickering about.
