is my tranny done for??
91 std, d16z6, 89 dx tranny... ive known that for the past few weeks my tranny fluid has been leaking out extremely slowly and lately its been getting a little tough to get into 5th gear... i didnt think anything of it because it was so slow until i was on my way home from work yesterday cruising in 5th gear when my rpm's shoot up as if i was in neutral... i thought it just popped out of gear so i take it out of gear and put it back in 5th- same thing... so i knew my 5th gear was gone... i didnt have a ride to work today so i was going to make this my last trip with the car in this condition... on my way home from work today i was accelerating in 2nd slowly when the car comes to a screeching halt... now i cant get it into any gear and when its in "neutral" its actually stuck in 4th... so thats how i got home... i counted it- 12 ******* stop lights that i had to start out in 4th in... now i probably have to change out my clutch too... i talked to my tranny guy and i still havent gotten a response so im asking you guys... would a tranny flush fix this or do i need a new tranny? thanks for all the input guys... oh and bash me all you want for being a dumbass and letting it get this bad lol

Sounds like you bent all the shift forks, and that the synchros went to hell the day before that.
Honestly, it would be better to overpay to get a tranny fast - $100 on HT - than try to bandage up a d-series cable tranny. A flush won't do **** to a gearbox that was already popping out of gear, and now stuck in another gear. All a flush will do is help reduce existing grinding and prolong its life a bit.

When the tranny is low on fluid it does that popping out of gear bullshit..Where's it leaking at anyway? The axle ? Flush it and refill it and see what happens..If it's still messed up you can get dx trannys so cheap now days everywhere..
yeah thats what i was thinking... i asked a guy by my work how much it would be for a flush and he quoted me $45... so id rather go and get an si out of the junkyard for $100 or a dx for $125(thats how much they are down here)... then fill it up with some syncromesh and call it a day... of course my car has a whole mess of small little problems so im also thinking about getting my buddies shell that is MINT and maybe he'll include the zc tranny in it? he only wants $500 for it so im also looking at that route
