Default 97 GSR WITH SKUNK 2 CAMS AND....

So i just threw in some skunk2 stage 1 cams, along with bolt ons and my sk2 mani/tb later this month. I also just bought a 97 spec ITR valvetrain... there are 16 springs, and 8 smaller springs. I assume the dual springs are for intake side? Whats this i hear about using the stock gsr springs and putting those on the exhaust side? Explain in detail if possible
good assumption that the gsr has a dual spring setup on the intake side as well? Also, where should i put my cam gears??? +1 and -1?

I am guessing you purchased a GSR valve train as the "R" should have a total of 32 springs, 16 big, 16 little. What colors are painted on the springs?

sounds like you just bough another set of GSR springs. I don't know if all but the GSR head that we took apart had dual springs on the intake side.

Well i talked to the guy i bought htem from and he assured me they are itr.
I took a magnet to the retainers he sent me and they DO get magnetized and can be picked up... Now if i recall, the GSR were aluminum retainers right?

I heard something about putting the ITR intake springs on the intake side of the c1, then moving the stock intake side to the exhaust side (32 springs in all). Would this work with my stage 1 cams, and gsr inners all around with TI retainers?

*sorry for the long effing post*

Dude you got ripped, I would request my money back if I were you. GSR keepers aren't aluminum, running aluminum keepers is a death wish (especailly for honda), I took mine out with a magnet so I'm pretty sure they aren't aluminum.

The GSR head that I took apart had dual springs on intake side, and 8 springs on exhuast. So you prolly got another GSR spring set. Get your money back and get an actuall set. Don't try to use dual gsr on intake and exhuast, at least not until you measure their spring tension. But I wouldn't use them anyways. Get an actuall ITR spring set.

my memories getting bad i forget if its inner outter or both but gsr intake springs being the same as the itr exhaust.

ABK- i didnt say the keepers lol I was wondering more about the retainers. What metal are the GSR's made out of? I was really in it for the TI retainers as the springs arent a huge upgrade anyways

Ait ITR and GSR retainers are exatly the same, they are made out of the same metal as ITRs. What kind of crack are you smoking, springs aren't a huge upgrade anyways? WTF you need springs with more tension to prevent valve float. Titanium retainers just make the job easier by reducing the moving mass. I don't like titanuim retainers because some people got issues with them wearing out and dropping valves.

Not a huge upgrade for MY application. I highly doubt my setup will even make power past 8200, so for me to be able to rev to 9k is kinda useless... wont know till i hit a dyno though haha

yeah stage 1's won't make power past 8200 so itr valve train is fine. I rev my R to 10k all day but power seems to drop around 7600 ...huh damn b16 cams..

14.4 96mph usdm itr motor with b16 cams. What now? haha good **** stemy. maybe someone will actually answer your question and not bash ya.

it's not all about the reving... it's how big the duration and lift change there is. So if the valve lifts and stays lifted longer it need to come back way quicker otherwise it will float.

But then again if you like to get ripped in the *** and not do anything about.... You wonna buy my "ITR" tranny (cx). Seriously wtf is wrong with you?

Why would you be using "dirty" valve springs that that the color has worn off anyways? They sound like used GSR springs, or old B-16. You get what you pay for, good luck, try 9000.

I'm not an *******, the ******* is the guy that tried to sell those as ITRs. You can thank us for not getting ripped off. The question is are you smart enough not use stock gsr vavletrain on stage1s?

Yea i appreciate the help, but dont be a dick about it. Check my other posts, it was either here on HAN where i asked if it was ok to use stock springs/retainers on sk2stg1's and people said it was fine since there wasnt much difference from ctr's-stage 1's. Obviously im already looking for new **** as we speak

Actually, you do not appreciate the help. Members have told you, you were getting screwed. The correct answer is "thank you"" My answer is "have fun on E-bay" Put this poster on ignore.
