JDM EF9 Sir Guage Cluster Plugs
hello fellow HT posters.
consider this as my small contribution about the EF9 guage cluster. i did a search and found about 81 threads regarding this issue but none of them showed some pix on what to do with the cluster if you bought the cluster without the OEM plugs in them.
also i took this write-up as a guide:
http://b16a.honda-perf.org/cluster.html
as you can see in this first pic, i labled the plugs as A, D, B, and C.
plug A = 6 pin
plug B = 8 pin
plug C = 10 pin
plug D = miniature 10 pin

plug A(passenger side) has only six wires/pins. so what i did, i went scouting for a set of any hatch/sedan cluster plugs which are 8 and 12 pins.
using the 8 pin plug, i cut the pin insert on both sides to come up with a six wire plug:

plug B - 8-pin, use the old, stock one and re-pin using the guide above.
plug C - 10-pin, use the 12-pin stock one and cut each pin insert on both sides to make it ten pin plug.

be extra carefull when cutting each side. if possible, heat the tip of a sharp blade cutter before slicing the plastic plug. as you can see, i broke one of the sides of the plug so i used JB weld to fix that anyway but it's always good to do a clean cut
plug D, 10-pin miniature plug. from the guide above, you will be using only 5 pins actually, D1, D2, D3 and D8, D10. so i did use two plugs w/c you can find on old faulty PC power supplies. Each power supply actually has one each for the 3.5" floppy drive so i took them instead before they threw them away.

once you are done, take some few more minutes to clean the guage face using Meguiar's Clean Plastic Cleaner and Polish for a better shine

thanks guys
just an update, you may also find the 10-pin plug on stock EG clusters. i just found one the other day when i stumped on a total wreck eg hatch, i was just curious i looked into it's guage cluster plugs and there i found one.

nice...!!
i have one question, which one of those wires is for the door indicator light/s, my trunk light indicator works but the door lights aren't, any ideas?
edit: the lights work, but arent coming on when the doors are open, im pretty sure the wires arent connected...TIA

try checking the link i gave above in the first post.
though i haven't hook up the guage yet actually, i'm sure if it's not wired correctly, maybe the lights in the cluster itself is/are faulty. try checking each light by applying 12v directly as power source then grounding the respective terminals/pins.

coo, i'll check the wire diagram you posted.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I followed this guide completely - my JDM cluster is in and working 100% now. Awesome writeup.
Oh yeah and for anyone else trying it, I found that for connector D, the plugs coming off the motherboard (for sound, LED's, etc.) worked a bit better than the floppy drive power supply plugs.
