How do I pop my hood if the cable has been tampered with?
My crx was almost stolen it seems the other day. I walked out in the morning and the hood cable was sticking out of the front grill. They didn't cut it but they yanked it pretty far out. My hood latch handle doesn't work now and my starter is acting up so I think it needs to be replaced.. but I can't pop my hood. What should I do?
if u have a 90-91 front end its pretty ez. Just stick ur hand in the opening of the bumper grill ( try getting to the t-bar ) hint: thats where the cable latch is located.
give it a good yank on the cable and the hood should pop perfectly.
now the hard way.
jack up the front of the car ( high enough for u to fit ur whole body ) once u can get under the car with ease, get a flathead screwdriver, follow the cable latch, find the poping latch mechanisim, use the flathead to push the locking mechanisim to release ur hood.
hope this help.
oh by the way i email u about my ride.

pull on the cable and do it the same way that they did.
the previous post is what i would do if that doesnt work, except that i would add the "use jackstands" disclaimer if you have to crawl under there.

maybe let someone kept on pulling the cable hook to open while you go and open its. one of my uncle's accord the old 87, the hook is hard to open. i can't open one time, and that's what he told me to. therefore, i put a screw or something to hold the cable while i open the hook and it's work.
thanks ill try that tonight...
is there way to NOT make it like this so anyone can just pop my hood?

Locking pins or you could put something nasty up there (razor, hot lead to the battery), and anti-seize all over the cable.

The cable is so easy to get at for theives..It runs right along the frame rail and is easilly seen..What I did was re route the cable through the fire wall and and its hidden in the interior..You would see it and not even know you were looking at it..I got my alarm box hidden in the interior and have 2 sirens hidden..and the alarm has its own battery..And I made the ignition wires a different color so they're like "WTF is goin on here"..You can still steal it but its not gonna be as easy as any other honda..

get a small chain ( bike chain ) get a master lock or whatever u feel better of having to protect ur car/underhood.
Now for the fun part...
Take the chain and run it thru ur hood latch. Hint: the hood need to b down, but not lock.
Once the chain is ran thru the latch, make like a knot with it. Hint: not to big, just enough for to lock it with the master lock.
Last take the master lock and lock them chain u got. Hence those theives will never know what they come across, doubt it they can take a chain cutter thru ur bumper/grill.
After all is done...just fully shut ur hood!
This is pretty underhood thief protection, but isn't fully protected..they can always tow ur car..and do their worst once they have that car to themself, but its pretty safe to say ur hood won't b going anywhere or whatevers under it while ur car sits on the streets.
