what are the best mods for the R engine without doin internals
a buddy of mine had a 98 ITR hes got an awesoem suspension but now he wants to work on the motor,he got a aem cold air, jdm dc header, apex n1, now what can he do without goin internal, he wants to be as fast as he can be without internals
thanks
thanks
If he already doesn't have a high flow cat? Then now would be the time to invest. A good FPR, Camgears and enough money for a day at the dyno and tune, Tune, TUNE!!!
VAFC optional but wideband O2 is a must or at least extremely desired.
A.
PS, whats his suspension setup if I may ask?

something simple on the internals with like 2 hour the most of install is some mild cams to go with the cam gears . also some good dyno tuning !very important
I understand your willingness to participate but, doesn't the title say: "WITHOUT DOIN INTERNALS?"
I mean,,, he didn't say stray.
Internals includes cams.

his suspension consists of tein coilovers, mugen front upper strut bar, mugen rear upper strut bar, skunk2 rear lower tie bar, skunk2 rear lower sway bar, replaced all bushings , skunk2 camber kit, stock gunmetal itr rims with 205-50-15 falken azenis,
thanks for all the replys, i was thinkin a furl pressure regulater cam gears apex vafc, i dunno what else, hes tryin for a mid to high 13 without internals if that possible , what does he need to do or can he do it , a little later hes gonna get toda spec c's, titanium valve springs and retainers, ctr pistons and rods , and have it dyno tuned dyno tuned dyno tuned
thanks for all your help

I don't think he can consistantly get in the 13's with just the aformentioned mods and just the FPR, Gears, VAFC & Tuning.
Correct me if I'm wrong someone?
Of course you said internals, but didn't mention nitrous, turbo or supercharger?
So, what exactly is the budget and how far does he really want to take it?

Well basically everything outside the engine block is anything Not internal. Cam gears are tuning the internals that would be modified by any bolt on's Outside.
I'm not flaming you, I am just clearing this up. Internals, Yes are attached to the camgears but, the gears are on the outside.
They attach to stock Cams as well, not just aftermarket ones. When you mod the internals, you do just that, physically modify them with different pieces. If you wnant to get technical about the definition of the word modify I could see you saying that you are modifying the performance of the stock engine itself but, this is also better defined as Tuning.

Driver's schools. why do i say that? because my friends who have done drivers schools are faster than me, even though they have slower cars....
Although, as everyone already knows I am a big *** advocate for actually learning how to drive the R well as a best Mod.
I have to say: "Stay On Topic guys!" this guys' asked what Engine mods, not whats the best mod or top five best mods or what do you think is the most important mod in general.
I,H,E both 2.5" piping, high flow cat, Fuel pressure regulator, Adjustable cam gears, VAFC or completely programmed or programmable ECU, and of course Lots of tuning... those would be the mods to do for more power Before going inside and doing internal swaps.
A.
Ps getting high and mighty with the driving comments tends to ailenate people and give us an elitest label.

its cool ! the reason i mention cams , well he said bolt ons and some people do not want to do much to there cars , just simply enjoy them.but also if correctly and i really do not recall since i did cams and gears at the same time dont you required the need to take the cams out in order to install the cam gears?? and if yes well thast the reason since upgrading to mild cams is very simple do to the over head cams and also no need for mayor work .

Toda cam gears ! FPR well i like the way stillen performs in my application but i did mine 2 years ago so im sure that there a lot better one
get a larger throttle body.........port and polish........weight reduction.......
if he has all those suspension mods and doesnt know what to do to his engine........ughs.......
btw, DTM STYLE muffler tips do increase top end.......

thanks for all the replys, my friend nos what to do he just wanted opinions on other stuff, and he already went to driving school i dunno which one i just remeber him talkin about it a while ago , and apparently he did some research also and he just ordered the following
high flow cat
aem fuel pressure regulater
toda cam gears
apex vafc
jun lightwheight flywheel
act clutch
he gonna be pissed when i tell him i coulda gotten him the f.p.r the cat vafc for so much cheaper than he got them for haha

Nuttin for nuttin, but why is your friend not on here askin and searchin like the rest of us? Especially if he has already done a class and a full suspension upgrade. Does he compete in any events? What does he do with his car? Daily or mix or track only?
Sounds like he might also have some advice to share with us in return for ours?

he doesnt have access to the internet, that why hes not on here, ill find out what kinda events, class hes in , his car is his daily driver so he only goes on the weekend somtimes
ill find out details later
ps, what kinda 1/4 times could he pull with his falken azenis
im thinking mid to high 13s
thanks

I really don't think that he could pull off 13's with just tires. The Azenis are sticky but, not drag slicks and are really not for getting lower 1/4 times.
With just the mods he has and Me speculating as based upon what I've seen, I'd say low 14's maybe high 13's,
but, not 13's consistantly.
If this guy is a course driver then why are you asking about strip times? Is this knowledge for him or you?

the 1/4 mile times are for my knowledge
, but it doesnt hurt to no what you run in the 1/4
ill post back to tell you guys what he runs when he gets the stuff an puts it on the stuff SHOULD be here in 3 days but i gurentee it wont nothing ever comes whenit supposed to
once he gets the stuff il install it and well go to the track the following weekend
thanks
