Default 02 Civic Si Vs. 1999 Integra GSR

I have just turned 16 and am looking for my first car I know i want a honda product because they are ultra reliable, very effecient, and generally safe, those are the two cars I am looking at. Now It's a debate I know the GSR is slightly faster but i love the looks of the SI, just in comparison how do they drive does one have some problems the other does not. What about in modability, what is the difference.

The dc2 will always handle a little better since the ep3 has a McPherson suspension setup. However, dont let this be the deciding factor. Both cars should be reliable if they have been taken care of and they both have good aftermarket support and several engine swaps that will drop right in.

I had an old da9 and now have the ep3. From a functional point of view I like the hatch better than the liftback, when needed you can just get more junk in there. The other thing to consider is K series swaps are becoming more and more popular and a k20a2 will drop right into the ep3, you dont even have to change the motor mounts.

Good luck!

get the GSR... There are millions part that would make it look nicer and faster than the EP and you can go step by step instead of shelling out all the money for a swap or FI.. The thing with the EP is that to get more real power, you have to do a swap or go FI and it aint cheap.. It ain't really cheap to go into JDM scene with EP either... Just the Stock JDM Bumpers and sideskirts will set you back around $2000 or more.. Also I belive GSR has 5lugs, 02 Civic Si= 4 lugs.. So as far as modability is concerned, GSR > EP3, if you're on a tight budget...

All DC chassis except type R had 4x100

I had a 94 LS and it just seems that it lack space, head room.
Greddy kit, Eibach Sportlines, Koni yellows, and it was a great ride.
cons- broken into twice, and street kids seem to want to race me alot,
pros- aftermarket galore and mod friendly.

Stock vs. stock, I say get an ep! The gsr has more power, but the ep has more torque, so they pretty much even out! However, if you're good at getting deals for jdm parts, the ep would be a good choice just cuz i like the way it looks! On the other hand, the gsr is also a good car and parts are much cheaper!

a lot of people out there like the GSR and will try to break into it, so theft is a big issue for DC2's, while there are people out there who will break into EP's its not as popular as the DC2, b series engines etc.

the K series engines in the ep's and dc5's respond really well to bolt ons, better then the b series motors do, and all it takes for the ep to handle great and look good is a drop. get some eibach springs and your set.

plus the cool things about the EP's which are the awsome seats, the rally-shifter which is amazing, makes me wish i got an EP.

so i would get the EP in a heartbeat

dc2=most stolen vehicle..

you should go with the Si...but if you really really don't care about the theft records of the dc2, then get it..i have one and i love it. but later on i plan to switch to the 02+ si or the 05-06 RSX.. IMO you should get the si as your first car.

GSR is better because:
1. b18c is a great satisfying engine and is great to build on
2. hydraulic steering makes for a go-kart like ride.
3. probably better styling, but it does look dated.
4. Better layout if you plan to turbo

ep3.....:
1. nicer interior and the seats are alot better with alot more comfort plus it's alot more roomy
2. stiffest chassis honda ever made so it can easily out handle many modded dc chassis.
3. Fresher looks but many dislike it.
4. easy to do a k series changeover
5. more torque down low for daily driving

gsr is a whole hell of a lot easier to rip off and steal.
keep that in mind.

I had a 1996 GSR and now own a 2005 civic si, no comparison between the two. If I were you I would go for the GSR hands down.

i've always loved the EP chassis... it definitely looks great with the right parts...
but i know that it isn't cheap to mod...

i own a 94gsr, and i love it... aftermarket support is great, and its definitely faster...
why not buy an older year gsr.... many can be had for less than 6k

btw, you're 16.... and insurance will be a bitch.... i say get the teggie

not mine, but part of my inspiration:

The USDM EP3 Si is a much more modern, much safer car than the GS-R was.

I'd be putting my own son in an EP3 instead of a GS-R, so that's what I'm telling you, too.

There's a huge difference in the safety features and solidity of the body and chassis, in the favour of the EP3, and I would definitely recommend that.

As far as modifying the car, the K motors are on the beginning of the curve while the B motors in the GS-R's are coming to the end of their life expectancy and cycle. People are developing the K motors, not the B motors.

The B motor era is coming to an end.

As far as the criticism of the McPherson handling, you are not going to notice this in daily driving or even in normal performance or driving school events. Where you will notice the difference is in all out competition, where if you bounce over a gater hard in a corner you have to be prepared for the car coming down a slightly different way each time. There are a number of reasons for this and it's complicated by the fact that Honda's early McPherson designs had the tie rod end connected to the strut. (They changed this beginning in the 2006 Civic).

Unless you are in actual race conditions with a chassis developed to the fullest extent, you are simply not going to have this problem. And you might still win the race over the GS-R owner who can no longer buy the best suspensions for the older car.

i personally am not into 02 si's body style and me being an integra owner, i'd go for gsr. but ofcourse, it all comes down to what YOU like. they are both great cars.

GSR if you don't care about theft. Ep3 is nice but I love GSR's, maybe because I own one

can't get that k series sound with a gsr. get a ep3 just make sure you get an 02-03 or swap for the red tails. the clears are pretty ugly.

ep3s are newer, nicer cars as far as looks and comfort go. I got to test drive one locally at a dealership and am in the process of buying an 03 si from someone here on H-T..
