Default ABS on an 97 gsr

I picked up a shell and the owner said ABS was still hooked up and working. He showed me a box on the side of the car and he said it is the abs computer. He seemed very knowledgable on the subject, but I talked with another intergra owner who seems to know about the abs system and he said to use abs requires an abs ecu.

basically get to the point, i'm going to put an obd1 motor in the gsr so i'll be running a chrome/uberdata on p28 or such. will i loose abs?

Nick

Not that I know of. There is a little brain on the passenger side front that controls all of that. I do know you can remove the ABS, so I would say it will be fine.

I'd try to keep the ABS if possible, just my preference, I like ABS.......my teg stops better than my CRX and weighs a solid 300 pounds more than the CRX, and that difference increases dramatically if the road is wet.

I'd remove the controller like other dude said and drive it for a while and make sure that's what you want. If you want to remove it for weight savings, I personally don't think it's worth it. As for where to find info on it, I'm sorry I don't know, but you basically are going to have to reroute some brake lines and if you have a leak it's going to be a nightmare. One of my friends removed his and had a leak he could never find and had a brake that kept dragging, it was all bad. If you still want to do it, good luck. Just thought I should tell you it could go bad on you.
