Looks like the clutch is slipping at high rpms so I'm looking for a replacement.
The two clutches im considering are the:
Exedy cerametallic clutch kit
or
Exedy organic clutch kit
Now my question: Which one should I get?
My goals with the car are to make it a partial track car. I plan on going to expo 6 this year (First HPDE). I have a daily driver so the car is not driven all the time just when I feel like having some fun.
I am happy with the oem feel right now but I don't want to get the organic clutch and replace it after 20k miles. I talked to wai and he's the one that gave me the idea on the ceramettalic clutch since thats one he uses in his spoon car. Obviously the spoon car is not compareable to my stock car so I don't want to get a clutch that is overkill.
I don't mind clutch chatter or a stiffer feel so these factors will not play a roll in which clutch I get. But I want somethign that can still have a slightly smooth engagement. It sucks driving around on the street with a 6 puck and a clutch that can handle 400 ft/lbs of torque.
I dug around the forum and found information but no one really laid out what they felt about the clutches other than a gerenic statement like 'I like it'
So any positive input is much apperciated.
I have a 2nd question sorta (my mind might already be set but I'm always open for opinions) When I swap the clutch I'm going to replace the flywheel as well. Im considering getting an Exedy flywheel which is about 10 lbs. My other choice in mind would be a Fidanza (7.5 lbs).
In terms of quality which one is better? Now the exedy is made of chromemoly where as the fid. is straight alluminum.
So I've heard that the Fidanza has the teeth pressed in so theres more of a risk of it breaking? But I know tons of people on the bored that run fidanza without any issues.
Just any input would help.
Thanks

I highly recommend the one I have....now all I know is that it was the Excedy racing disk with the matching PP, I also got the Excedy chromoly FW to go along with it. I would also recommend PMing BlueR for your needs.

I just replaced my clutch/pp/flywheel.
After alot of reading and research I chose to get the ACT HD clutch/pp, and Toda flywheel. I expect the ACT stuff to last longer than OEM....we'll see.
First owner of my car sold it to me with destroyed clutch (55K).
I replaced with OEM and got 70K out of it.
The clutch feel is stiffer than stock, but not by much. Their 20-50% over stock claim is probably a tad high. I noticed the flywheel only maybe the first 2 or 3 times I drove, now I can't even remember what the old one was like.
I weighed the flywheels when both were off the car, the stock was 15.5 lbs and the Toda was 9 ish, sucky scale.
I bought the Toda cause I got it for a killer deal, but if that deal hadn't been available I would've likely chosen the Fidanza, or maybe Comptech, which I hear is very similar.
Daily driving this setup is wonderful.
Now if I could just get the car to go straight

Exedy cerametallic only lasted me 11,000 miles.
ACT lasted about 25,000 miles then suddenly gave out while i was in Fl...
clutches... none are perfect, get what you can afford

Yup, the exedy cerametallic doesnt last that long. I have couple of friends that went through them about the same or less miles. They replaced it with either ACT w/six puck OR Tilton single plate.
In our experiences, it seems the contributing factors to the wear is power output and/or the clutch chatter caused by the damper springs (used to smooth engagement; actually causes the disc to chatter more as it gets sprung back). If an organic disc is slipping with your power and/or wearing fast, you need a clutch with an cerametallic disc, preferably unsprung hub.
I like the single plate tilton (btw, it could be ordered with an unsprung Organic disc, but the standard unsprung six puck is easy to drive) over the ACT six puck.
Pedal pressure on the tilton is softer and it doesnt engage as harsh as the ACT. Number one reasons why I like the tilton over the ACT is that shifting is faster and the feel of the shifter is like when you shift through the gears with the motor off, its that smooth. The only thing I dont like about the tilton is the rattle of the disc when clutch pedal is pressed.

Thanks for some good info...I talked to BlueR yesterday and he said they now sell a thick disc for the cerametallic. so it should go longer then 11k miles.

On my boosted GSR I had an ACT Xtreme pressure plate and 6 puck...It was pretty stiff I'm assuming it close to this?

I recently had the ACT XT-SS and the cerametallic had a shorter slippage and slightly stiffer pedal. Not very practical unless you are going drag racing. For track use It will be kinda hard to heal toe
I am now back to a stock clutch and I heal toe so much better due to a long pedal and way less pressure.

I have the exedy organic with OEM throw out bearing and light weight flywheel. The organic is a nice pedal feel unlike most of these aftermarket over clutched applications you can get. BTW Rob, your icon looks like a pissed off sperm cell!

Toda has a great clutch. For about a $100 more than the Toda well balanced kit (PP,disk, flywheel) you can get this:

Toda Single Clutch (It also includes the PP,disk, flywheel)
It looks like an Exedy Hyper Single clutch. According to Toda USA(AKH Trading) its not a rebadged Exedy Hyper Single, Its Todas own specs./design built by Exedy.
BTW, One of my friends that is still using the Exedy Stage 2 (3 puck cerametallic) has gone through one of the thicker disks already in about 12k miles. Its the sprung center damper. IMO, if you need a cerametallic disk, try to get one without the sprung center it wont wear as fast.

Agree totally with this. ACT extreme w/six puck grabs hard but makes heel-toe difficult. Thats why I would recommend the Tilton (pedal pressure is only slightly heavier than stock) and doesnt grab as harsh(compared to the ACT) even though both have a six puck metal disk. AND you could still heel-toe.
