Default Wheel Polishing

I have a set of HP hurricanes right now and I was looking for a way to spruce them up. The lip is polished but not very fine and the spokes have like a silver paint on them with clear coat. I wanted to make the whole wheel polished. Would it come out good if I just sanded the entire wheel down starting at 300grit and wet sand my way up to 2500 to get the wheels polished? or would it leave them looking scratched? anyone attempt it before?
