Gutted Coupes post up pics!
This is not another "Seach you Tard!" post. I know there are a ton of gutted pic threads but I always see hatches in these pics. Where are all the gutted coupes? I am looking to gut my car but there is that realy cool looking rear deck that looks retarded when gutted in coupes. Anyone have a eye sore solution on this?
My solution...cuts down on road noise and looks alot nicer than the crusty metal floor. And for those that moan about weight reduction...that's not why I did it. My rear seat had a rip/tear in it since the day I purchased it, rarely had more than one passenger, and I always wanted to make the trunk board a bit more stable than that flimsy carboard junk. No I do not have a diy thread, it's very easy to do. Just some mdf hardboard, speakerbox carpet, jig/circular saw, tape measure, spray glue and staples. Thanks for looking.

Solution = Don't gut the trunk.
Sounds your simply gutting your trunk for cosmetic/appearance . There is probably no way around it other than making an PDF board like the previous guy did for his floor, which again just adds weight defeating the purpose of gutting your car.

I forgot to add: It's not bolted down, so before I go to the track or autocross...I simply remove all three pieces and voila...it's gutted. Weight is gone.

I don;t mean the trunk cover. I was refering to the eye sore of the rear deck that holds the rear speakers under the rear window. Its steel and when you gut the car it looks like Doo Doo.
I am not gutting my car for appearance I am gutting to get my power to weight ratio a little better. i removed all the sound deadning material and now I am going to paint it, but want to know about that speaker deck.

well you kinda contradicted (sp?) yourself there, but i know what u mean. i was gonna remove my "rear deck" too, but i wanna keep my third brake light.
cuz my coupe is gonna be on the streets. unless you wanna go thru the trouble of rigging your 3rd brake light to work somehow without the rear deck being there go ahead. id like to see honestly. i just didnt want to take the time.
it was the hardest part inside to paint too. we still got it pretty good. it would have helped if i had bought a 'touch-up' spray gun.
imo, i dont really mind it. i mean its a coupe....i dunno if i'll be installing speakers back there. time will tell. i really doubt you're gonna win a car show with a fully gutted interior.

Are you tracking the car on a regular basis, or more daily driving? You can always rig up the third brake light with a little work
Depending on the first answer above there has to be a way to cut out the sheet metal on the rear deck, its about as thick as a Coke can. Although I'm am not a structual engineer so I have no idea whether or not cutting it out would affect the overall structure of the rear end of the car.

Yeah I can see it being a PIA to paint. Im not in any way trying to be a show car. im dropping the weight for street nights, but it's just something that I would like to do because I would like it to look clean for myself. I like to keep everything done to the car clean and simple looking. I was thinking about cutting it out but then I think a cage would be needed to help with body flex. In a coupe Im sure that plays a large roll.

yeah most likey, but how would you be able to spray that without puddling up in the back a little? there is no space. I never looked super close but is there no way to remove and reinstall it? or is it connected directly to the frame?

Best way would probably be to remove the rear windshield.
