Default 99-00 SI questions.

I am about 48 hours and a beer or two of thought away from adding another Honda to my garage and I wanted some ideas on common problems to look for before purchasing the car.

Car is a 99 EBP SI
Eagle rods/JE low compression pistons
ARP head studs
Drag gen 3 turbo kit
DSM 450's with resistor box
Crome tuned P28 with jumper harness, no CEL's
Greddy catback
Greddy EBC (not hooked up)
Greddy TT
Wideband
Aftermarket big brake kit on the front (forgot brand after looking at it, one of the B's.)
nice sound system, misc gauges in a pillar and a few other things done to the car.

I know who built the short block and have been doing business with them for years, really good guys. They are also doing a 12-15psi tune on the car on the dyno for me prior to me picking it up. It has 80k on the chassis and just under 10k on the motor/turbo setup.

Now the bad, just behind the pass 1/4 window, there is a small dent, no creases, just a little indention about 1/2 the size of my hand. Couple of rock chips here and there but nothing major and the paint is very glossy. The panel or whatever goes under the radio was removed and replaced with a metal panel that houses the EBC, TT, and Wideband, I hate it and think it looks like straight *** so I will need to locate an OEM panel and move the electronics to the glove box. And lastly the shifter feels sloppy in the bushings.

What do you guys think this is worth? The engine and turbo setup were not done as a backyard hack job, it was done right and the car looks nice and runs great, just have to get the tune done first as it was originally run at 7 lbs on the FMU only and there is no way I wil drive an FMU car.

If there are any problems associated with EM1's like chassis, rust, rattles or leaks to look for, let me know so I can check it all out tomorrow when I go back to test drive it when it comes off the dyno. Thanks.

I'd buy it, I don't nearly as much done to my EM1 but I love her to death adn would do it all over again in a heart beat. Sounds like the one you are looking at was built pretty stout so I say go for it. And by the way how do you like J-ville? I used to live over in Hubert right outside the back gate on HWY 172 of Camp Lejuene.

i havent had major problems with my Em1, but ive heard storys of trunk ratteling and windows rolling up slowly. but thats little things. when you go for a test drive make sure all the long trip stuff works, Ex. Cruise Control, AC, Heater, Sun Roof.

Well that sounds good, I like it when owners don't have anything to complain about. That is a rarity for me lol.

Elite, I used to hate it here man but I have been here since 1996 and it has grown on me. I consider it home now.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I went to Swansboro High school and joined the US Air Force now I live in Japan, I didn't really like J-ville either but now I kinda miss it. So are you going to get that EM1? Do you have any pics?

Don't have any pics yet, waiting to see after the test drive tomorrow. If it feels good, I am headed to the bank because I really want a more comfortable car that is quick on the street but still reliable. My EG is nice a quick on the bottle but isn't the #1 most reliable thing I have owned.

The guys tuning it for me are going to try and squeeze 300whp on pump gas while being conservative with timing so I can enjoy a good amount of power but not have to worry about it. Money is in the bank, just trying to think it all the way through before I go buy it.

The rear deck was recalled for a rattle.
The passenger side windows have a habit of going up slowly. Mine doesn't, but all of the others in the area do.

Other than that, alot of people have problems with syncro's in the trans...could be a lack of driving ability and excessive abuse. Mine still work great 105K worth of non stop abuse.

well you asked how much we'd pay for it and well I'd buy it for anyweres from 11-13,000 bucks, sounds like it's got some nice goodies to it and can run very strong! as far as paint and body, thats easily fixed and cheap compared to the time and effort into that motor! Go for it, and if you don't, I'll have to kick you in the bo - gangles over the internet.

i had mine for 5 years and 96,000 miles and it never gave me any trouble. except for the driver side window kept going off the track and sticking. the synchro problem was only on the early 99 si's late 99si's and 2000 didnt have any issues. there a good car just heavy. i like my cx hatch more and it was cheaper. i wouldnt pay more then 8-9k tops for one like that though.

Picked her up last night, threw the pics up in the EM1 thread. Ended up paying 9200 and got a dyno tune out of the deal with a Chipped ECU. Love the car. Didnt' buy it to race, I have my hatch for that, just wanted a comfortable street car with enough power to be fun and this definately fits the bill.
