Must have some xmas luck up my... (aka some cops rule)
Coming back from the office the other day, I got on to the highway using the very long on ramp.
This particular on-ramp has about a 1/2 mi merge lane - so you can pass a lot of cars on the right if you want to - but eventually you have to merge.
Well I was stuck behind two big trucks and they stayed in the merge lane cutting off my ability to zoom up the right side.
So instead - I merged left right away, and immediately had another truck right up my butt. Not wanting to cut him off - I gunned it and scooted up the middle lane until I passed those other two trucks that I was formerly behind.
I should have noticed the mini-van I passed with cops inside (ghost car) but didn't and I must have buzzed them at about 85 mph with full VTEC roar because as soon as I passed them - they flipped their lights and started chasing me.
I immediately slowed down - cursing my misfortune - and started wondering what they were going to cite me for (illegal exhaust, roll cage, lowered car, speeding, reckless driving etc).
The police officer took a long time to get out of his vehicle - I think he was running my plates and license on his computer.
He asked me for my licence and registration - which I promptly handed to him. And then he asked me :"are you in a hurry?". I said - "no officer - just being an idiot". He kind of looked at me funny, almost smiled and then walked back to his car.
He came back about 5 minutes later and said "well I could have been a lot worse on this - but I'm going to give you a ticket for unsafe lane change". (80 bucks).
I said "thank you sir".
Moral of the story: If you are nice, have a clean driving record and are lucky (maybe cause it's xmas time) - you can get off with a slap on the wrist.

Honesty is the best.
Your driving record is no longer clean.
congrats on getting out of a speeding/ reckless ticket.
<got a ticket on christmas eve last year.

Been there, done that. About this same time 2 years ago. I was hot headed because of a fight between a previous girl friend and I. I took out my aggression in my driving and well as luck would have it, a pair of head lights quickly came up on my ***. He proceeded to follow for a bit, made my usual right turn into my neighborhood and finally the lights come on. I had my info all ready to go knowing I was about to get pulled. I proceed to pull over and I hear him actually call my name? WTF? This dude already knows my name, I'm fugged. Well needless to say before he could get the words of of his mouth I handed him all of my info. He asked the usual, why I was going that fast and I proceeded to tell him. He pulled the GF aside and talked to her breifly. Then he took his sweet time running everything and came back to the car and asked if my GF was a licensed driver. She was so he told me that she had to drive the rest of the way home and I'd better thank my lucky stars because it was christmas time. Yeah, I was doing about 70 in a 45.
on me. Needless to say always be upfront with the Man. Most times if you give them the respect they will give it back to ya.
Glad to hear you didn't end up worse. $80 is nothing compared to what could have happened.

I've had more "pleasant" experiences with traffic stops than I have bad ones. Attitude goes a long way.

Nice job J
. Attitude makes all the difference. Making excuses and bickering will only **** the cop off. Appearance will go a long way too. You got lots of that pretty boy

About nine years ago, when I just got out of the military, my buddy and I decided to drive from Seattle, Washington to Los Angeles, California on the spur of the moment. My buddy drove though Washington and the entire state of Oregon before it was my turn to drive.
I took over after just passing the Cali/Oregon boarder and figured I'd make some good pace to make our goal. Driving through Mt. Shasta Pass I was pulled over by a CHP doing 120 in a 65mph zone.
I thought I was thoroughly fucked here. After about ten minutes of sitting there, both of us not saying anything he comes back from his cruiser and hands me a $450.00 speeding ticket. No wreckless driving, no nothing, just a speeding ticket. He laughed at me and my buddy, shined his mag light on my foot and made some silly comment then got back in his car and drove off.
We were stupid. I was stupid....lucky too. He asked questions, we were totally honest and scared shitless. However, we did make the Seattle to LA trip in 12 hours.
. Since this ticket was out of state, it also never went on my driving record or insurance.

consider yourself lucky.. I've been polite every single time i've been pulled over and earned plenty of tickets - ironically most of them not in any of my R's.. I previously liked to exceed the speed limit.. nothing insane, but speeding nonetheless..

Heh, I got pulled over last weekend by a "DRAG NET" cop that gave me a ticket for modified exhaust & loud exhaust. For those of you that know California, that means I have to go see a ref.
Good thing I've got my stock exhaust system in storage!

Sorta thing happen to me..not really. Blatent (spell check me) speeding 61 in a 45, turned on to my street and the cherries lit up, he had not been following me long (R> crown vic..hehe).
I was honest "just on my way home".
And thats the story of my first speeding ticket

I'm also glad that this post is about something positive rather than a negative experience, just keep it safe and within the law's limit.
and now that I have family on the other side of the fence (NYPD) I see all the **** they go through and realize that some people are just asking for it.
happy holidays to everyone

I'm just pissed that I'm still fighting my first ticket (running a stop sign)... yet I'm completely innocent and to be honest, I annoyed my friends with how conservatively I drove.
Since that incident, I've become increasingly careless with my driving...and I haven't been pulled over or even noticed. I figured that if I'm being punished, I may as well deserve it.
I'm feeling a little better about that incident these days though...perhaps I'll allow myself to recede into a moderately conservative driving style, which would be safer than anything else really...
I started to realize that I've been pulled over 15+ times while driving like ***** (yea the cops know me here ahah). Almost all of the encounters had been with reasonably nice cops, excepting that one which did me in. Also - perhaps obeying all the damned rules was a bit conspicuous? They thought it was affected behaviour, so they bite? Why the hell is it that I haven't been pulled over in the past 4.5 months with my new aggressive style? Odd...
Yea so with a weird record like that...you can see why I'm just confused more than anything else...dunno what to think

lucky , i was following a new subaru legacy at around 100 mph and when the cop rolled after him he almost slammed me at 100 , 4th gear all vtec , i got a 107 in a 55 , and im gonna have problems from it ,
I just got my clean record erased last night. I'm probably the only person in the world to get pulled over on the Mobile Bayway. It's basically a 7 mile long bridge with only one on ramp, of which has been closed down due to the hurricane. It's on of the few places I've deemed ticket proof lol.

Guess I jinxed myself. I had just left work and it was 12:30am so like I always I pegged it up to about 95mph. Unforunately nobody informed the State Trooper that the bridge was ticket proof. He was hiding in the out of service on ramp area and nailed me.
Cop was cool though and only gave me a normal speeding ticket.

I wont degrade the state of Virginia any longer, but i will advise you all to seriously watch your speed in that state. Some of you were very lucky, i on the other hand was treated very unfairly!

The last time I got pulled over for speeding, I told the officer that I was having a "bad wife day." (I really was, we just had an argument and I went for a drive to let off steam and to get out of the house.)
Anyway, he came back in about 5 minutes, handed me a warning ($0), and said, "I don't want to contribute to your bad day."
He was a town cop, and pulled me over about 1/2 mile from where I live. I didn't know him, but I'm sure being a "local" and having a clean record helped.
That was in my Teg RS. If I ever get pulled over in my ITR, I'm going to ask the officer if he has a "catch and release" policy. (Try to equate the ITR with a nice trophy trout.)
